Bully

Hey everyone, I was just wondering if any of you guys/girls out there have seen the indepdant movie Bully. It just came out to rent, and in the very beginning, there is a wooden coaster. I am assuming that it is the Dania Beach Hurricane, but I could be wrong. Anyone else have any ideas?
I wrote something about Bully in another thread, but I don't think many people saw the thread so I'll put it again:

I also just saw the movie Bully, which just came out to rent this week and showed a wooden coaster being built at the beginning. I'm not sure what the setting was, but the coaster looked like a CCI to me. The movie was along the lines of Requiem for a Dream(also starring the defunct Coney Island Thunderbolt) in the dramatic use of material and themes, and if you've ever seen the director's other movie, Kids, you know to expect some almost unbearable sequences. Stars Brad Renfro and Nick Stahl. It's a very good independent film, but still for those over 18 due to the extreme violence, sexual situations, and drug use.

I think it could be the Dania Beach Hurricane and that wouldn't surprise me. I guess I should have known it was Florida because of the gators. I'm surprised anyone else saw this. I love all movies and am especially interested in independent films and glad someone else got to see it.

I loved that movie, even more then kids. But we need to get off the movie topic or this thread will be closed. I didn't notice it being built, I just saw the track. It looked to be very nice though...PEOPLE RENT THIS MOVIE!
I saw the film as well. Parts of the scenic filming was done in and around LA, so I'm wondering if the coaster is Ghostrider.

Good point...I did not know that. The coaster looked to be smaller then Ghostrider though. There were also many palm tree's around it. Are there palm tree's around GhostRider?

ok, I can tell the difference between steel coaster manufacturers, but how can you tell the difference between woodies?  To me they all look about the same (all are made of wood).  Can someone tell me?

ALF is cool, I just had a gut feeling since the movie was filmed in 2000 and was shown being constructed(I know it was shown being constructed because in the commentary, they said it was used to show the "construction" of the "roller coaster ride" to come, which I think was used very well). The type of wood they were using just looked like what I've seen on other CCIs and the structure to build it looked thin and just reminded me of other CCI coasters. I think the GCI structure looks a little more thicker and the track more twisted. the track on this one looked more staright forward. I did forget the Hurricane was built last year though. I think it's the best possibility, because the filming in LA was very limited. It wasn't even included in the filming locations, so I'm sure it was only used for last minute editing situations.

I am thinking the Myrtle Beach Hurricane might be a possibility too though, which is a CCI.

The MB Hurricane sounds like a good bet.

Though I haven't even seen the movie, I can tell you its not Ghostrider.

Ghostrider has NO palm trees around it at all.  And part of it is in the park, part of it is backstage with admin. buildings, part of it is in a group of shops and part of it is in a park ing lot.

It would be rather recognizable.  Probably not really film material, with all of the stuff surrounding it.

Well not really when it comes to editing, they can do pretty much anything. Look at the opening/ending to Step by Step with Colossus right next to an ocean, that get's alot of people lol.
If this helps, IMDB lists three filming locations:  Florida, Cooper City, Florida, and Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.
Thanks for the information bigboy....I still think it is the Dania Beach Hurricane....although the Myrtle Beach Hurricane might be it. I haven't seen any pics of MB Hurricane so I can't base my oponion. Why are they both named the hurricane...?
I posted about this when the film came out.  Rollergator suggested that it's the Dania Beach Hurricane.  Judging by the new pics at coastergallery, I think that he was right on the money.

Good call Chris. After looking through the photos I agree with you.

If you get to South Florida, DO ride this coaster...for $10, you can ride 'til your hearts content, or at least 'til 2 am.  Considering the ride is ALWAYS a walk-on (and we went on a Sat. night), if you can't get enough rides in, something's wrong.  Also, Boomers has a Skycoaster and a Blender ride (and putt-putt, batting cages, bumper boats, a couple go-kart tracks).  I still wish they'd let me theme that sucker, though...
