For your conveyor, a timing belt (and timing belt pulleys) might be a pretty good material to use.
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun
Good idea; timing belts are available in a variety of sizes and lengths, from big enough to run an elevator down to something you would find inside a VCR (if you remember those things.. :) ). Even better, you might be able to find one that is double-sided, even, to engage with the bottom of the boats.

I have one of the Faller Log Flumes. It does run with real water, has 2 belts, 2 water pumps basicaly really similar to the Flume at Knoebels. It would at least make most sense to get one and use the parts even if you still want to build the Knoebels Flume replica. Also be advised there are 2 versions out there, the newer ones supposedly have improved lift systems I believe since they were originaly so problematic. But you can also get the replacement lift kit seperate if you have the older one.
Hmm, the engineering problems with the lift hill sound very close to real life. Is Faller a division of Intamin?
I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks, than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

LoL...nah, but the Flume is a pain to build, one of the most if not most complicated kit they've ever put out. That and the coaster models...it is VERY cool looking and really neat to see running, although I have problems with the lift bellts and don't really have the time or patience to replace the lift hills, so it just sits static basicaly.
It is a very accurate and fully detailed model, it's modeled after a portable flume of the same name made by Mack of Germany...not sure how many of the real ride exist, maybee just one as I could never seem to find alot of photos of it.
