Braking Profiles

Iggy, would you care to try out The Centerfuge without that brake there? That's the only coaster I've ever passed out on... and in the Centerfuge, of course.
This one just occured to me: Intamin Bobsled trims.

2022 Trips: WDW, Sea World San Diego & Orlando, CP, KI, BGW, Bay Beach, Canobie Lake, Universal Orlando

How about slamming into the brakes at the end of Son Of Beast. I always have to brace myself (literally) for that one.
While I don't think its the worst, how about the ending of S:ROS at SFA? Especially for guys, the position of the breaks (at the bottom of a bunny hill) and be quite painful if you haven't braced yourself for them.
Ive ridden S:RoS more than my fair share at SFDL and I think the brakes are really smooth. Are they any different @ SFA?

But then again, what do I know?

I've never ridden any other S:RoS other than the one at SFA. The breaks arn't particularly rough, they are just poorly placed to make them harsh, in my opinion anyway.
I don't know about you FlyInBack but I've never found S:ROS's final brake run to be rough at all & I keep my hands up the whole time until the train is actually fully stopped.

Now what would be rough is when those brakes fail & you end up flying through the station having to take that sharp right hand turn toward the lift at high speed-ouch!

Actually, if you are in the back seat of S:RoS (SFA), the braking can get rough. The placement of the brake run begins slowing the train before the folks in the back seat have landed in their seats from the airtime. Thus they get slammed into the lapbar. Although I think there are worse ones than that...

For such a slow, small coaster, Canyon Blaster isn't very pleasant.

But I have to say that the worst is GASM at SFOG.

No further explanation needed. I'm hopelessly lost.
^That's why I always sit up in the front of the train.

Are you talking about Canyon Blaster in Las Vegas? Stacking on that coaster hurts since there is very little room to stop...I remember we had to purposely set the ready brakes for evacuation drills...not fun, but we got paid for it!

...and such

Yea, thats what I was trying to say freakylick. Its just a bad position for the breaks to be located, although there are much worse out there...

I don't care for the brakes on the impulses. Stopping suddenly while going backwards isn't my idea of a good time. Why not let you just coast up the back spike and brake coming into the station?

I would imagine it's because they don't want to try to start braking the train unless it's level (braking on the way in would require braking when half the train is still coming down)

and

The trip up the back spike after the half trip up the front would just be plain boring. Especially for the front of the train.

....wouldn't stopping while going backwards be MORE comforatable because you are pushed into a seat instead of a restraint? I've never experienced it but someone tell me if I'm wrong.
I see both points. Something about that abrupt stop in reverse though just messes with my head. And as for the level braking, wouldn't it be built so the straightaway was behind the station as well as in front? And couldn't the ride cycle be altered to 1/2 launch up the front spike then coast up the rear and brake coming into the station? Its not like Impulses couldn't stand to be a little longer in duration.

But then again, what do I know?

Well, if you increase the straightaway, you increase the footprint (which is one of the major attractions of the impulse), and obviously the building cost. You also need to have the train stopping in a place where you have LIM's so you can shuttle the train back into place once it's come to a full stop. Adding a full new section of brakes and LIM's just so you can avoid stopping in reverse?

Rampage has some crazy braking. That first brake run is quite sudden and you think the ride is over, and then...well I won't spoil it for those who haven't ridden it. Fooled me everytime.

I've found that a lot of Boomerangs have pretty bad braking. Especially SFNE's. They kind of jerk back into the station a little at a time and then the last segment you get a little bit of speed going and wham!
