BPPB's 12th? - CoasterBuzz

went to blackpool pleasure beach on the 21st, and just noticed that some sites have it that BPPB only has 11 coasters, there is a 12th i'm sure, a powered coaster (mac i believe) called Mine Ride, which is basically a mine ride, it is fairly long and is distinctively a roller coaster in my books anyway, does any other UK'r or perhaps those who have visited the park have any comments?

That mine ride can in no way be called a roller coaster. It is basically a powered dark ride system themed as a mine ride. The ride isn't powered all along the track though, and does "coast" a bit. But essentially, it is still a dark ride system.

wait wait, there are lots of dark coasters, even figure 8 powered coasters which don't really coast, and even though it;s a dark ride, it can still be a coaster right?

Um, no. Tracks don't make a coaster. Gravity does! Is the train ride at CP a coaster? No! :)

Why, ms696969? STE cars are not powered along the entire track, only on launch...just like any other launched coaster. If Wicked Twister is a coaster so is STE.

no no this coaster has some little drops where it coasts, and it's by no mean a train ride

Hmm... So the Haunted houses that I've been on that had slight drops though powered 99% of the way count as coasters? Heck, that makes my Coaster Count/Track Record go up by at least 12.;)

Sorry Charlie, Dark rides are Dark rides, even if it isn't inside, and coasters coast for the majority of the time, as does WT and S: TE, which is launched, but coasts off the hill and back to the station.

Hmmm, I didn't really notice any free-rolling portions of Gold Mine, but I think perhaps one could successfully argue for the Ghost Train.

Gold Mine is a good fun little ride, but definitely a dark ride. IMHO it's stretching the imagination way too far to classify it as a coaster. The Ghost Train at BPB has at least one "coaster-type" drop and could lay claim to being a coaster way before Gold Mine (but it's not either!)

Little bit of topic I know, but anymore information come about BPB's real 12th coaster. There have been a lot of sketchy details but now that the council has given the go-ahead for Blackpool to be turned into as Las Vegas Casino haven then Geoffrey Thompson should be sticking that £25 million into the new ride surely. If it's for 2005 then surely work must start reasonably soon if its going to be half as big as we think it is.
