Boomerang Bay construction gets vertical at PKI

Posted | Contributed by CoasterAaron

PKI Unlimited.com has added several construction photos contributed by Paramount's Kings Island Marketing Director Jeffrey Siebert. The photos show progress on Tazmanian Typhoon, Coolangatta Racer, and many other miscellaneous parts of the future "water paradise."

Question: Are they simply constructing a new waterpark on the old waterpark location or are they building a whole new park? And if so, is the old one staying?

It looks like they are "renovating" the old waterpark to me based on what I see in the pics. That is just my guess.

They do appear to be keeping some elements, and by some I mean the locker building and the tall slide tower. It doesn't look like they've kept much else.
If you can imagine (for those who have never been to the waterpark), it was in the shape of a U, with the big eletrical towers running down the middle. The only thing they removed was the speed slides on the tower in the front. That tower will be reused for new slides. The ground under the electrical towers will be built up to a hill and plants so you can not see from one side of the waterpark to the other. Then a new pool with waterfalls and the funnel are being added with a new family water fun area (with the big bucket). So basically everything in the water park is staying and new stuff added while adding new amenities (ie.. bathrooms, changing rooms, lounging areas).

While the stuff that is staying is being renoved by being expanded, repainted, rethemed...

Just wondering. Is there going to be a wave pool at all?
What's with the spastic spelling of Tasmanian? Clearly it's more extreme with a "z" (presumably pronounced "zee", not "zed"). Let's not forget that a typhoon is a tropical storm, at Tasmania has a temperate climate, so there's not too much chance of any typhoon.

"Coolangatta Racer"? That's just plain odd. Coolangatta is your regular beachy, high-risey part of the Gold Coast; it's not as if it's a world famous national park or an iconic outback town. The name's not even catchy - they could at least have made the second word begin with a "c" to keep it flowing.

I'm not bagging the water park - I mean it looks like it'll be fantastic. There's nothing wrong with the Australian theme either, but they seem to have chosen some of the most random and incoherent names possible... not that anyone visiting will really care.

Somehow I doubt they did any real field work. They most likely just got out a dictionary and just made random names.

Yes PKI's excuse for a wavepool will return(its not very deep). *** This post was edited by PKIEMPSOB 11/25/2003 8:14:42 PM ***

Just to echo what Beastfreak said...

Nothing is being removed exsept the Fasttracks.

IMO , perfect move. The waterpark really stunk , and felt like a concrete wasteland. The Fast tracks were wretched slides , and deserved to leave. I can't wait!
They are keeping ALL of the old old stuff EXCEPT the speedslides. Its a massive rethemeing. They are filling in the concrete places with rides and are trying a new style of concrete like what they used back on tomb raider.
They're doing what? No concrete is being torn up for a ride. They are not putting in new concrete. Who you be talking to?
