B&M stand up restraints

hey, this is kind of a dumb question, but ive always been curious...currently the only stand up coaster ive ridden is Shockwave at PKD, which is a TOGO....for those of you who have had the pleasure of riding this work of art(semi-sarcastic:))know it has the shoulder harness and the lap bar. but the pics ive seen of BM have shown just a harness....how do these restraints feel?? are they painful in transitions? do they allow airtime like the restraints on TOGO? just curious if anyone can give me some comparisons.....YES< it is is TOTALLY off season :)

Ever rode an arrow? The reastarints are basically the same with more padding. They aren't painful excpet for maybe Iron Wolf. You can get air and they are FAR superior to a togo restraint.

Does CCI know how to make a bad coaster?

If they don't lock the bike-seat up too far, then it's comfortable. If you lean into th eharness, then your shoulders take any vibration created from the ride so it isn't rough.

After riding Shockwave as many times as I have, I thought there couldn't possibly be a worse restraint system on a stand-up coaster. Then I rode Mantis at CP. My inner thighs hurt so bad afterwards the whole day I was there, and it was the first ride of the day! It's probably a guy thing, but those bicycle seats should be condemned!

Iron Wolf's old restrains had a smaller bike seat which, to my limited memory, was a lot easier on the male anatomy than the new seats. although the new shoulder harnesses are much better

IW's seats are the same. The restraints are new this year, and 100 times better than the plastic rocks that were on it. The new foam covered restraints still make a rough ride, but it's like banging your head onto an overstuffed feather pillow. It's quite comfortable, accually.

I've never found any of the standups uncomfortable, except for a little head banging on the Intamin at LaRonde. But, I used to be a bicycle racer. I guess after you've put in 100+ miles in a day on a bicycle, some on cobblestones, a mile on a coaster isn't much.

The new restraints made IW good...Be more concerned over how your area down there is situated....cuz one time, well you don't want to hear it. But it hurt!

I know I'm in the minority here, but I actually like the Togo standup restraints a lot more. The B&M standup restraints just completely engulf me, while the Togo restraints actually leave me the ability to look around. I actually really LIKE the close-from-the-side shoulder bars (although I wish they'd lock in a way that they couldn't close on you further while riding).

The B&M standups are much better rides, of course, but I'd like them even more if they used a restraint based on the Togo design.

B&M stand up restraints are infinitely better than Togo's. Very simple and comfortable. They even allow enough space for a 6'6" guy to stand up straight, and ALMOST enough for a 6'11" guy. He has to bend his knees slightly. Anyone who thinks they hurt...well I just don't know how you could think they hurt.

I think the space between the armrest and the bicycle seat is a bit small. If there was a weee bit more room for your thighs it wouldn't be so bad.

baddboy: those aren't armrests exactly. I believe that they're more meant to keep you from moving side to side, but if you can use them as armrests then go ahead. I've never thought of using them that way. anyway, they're on all B&M's. well all B&M's that I've encountered. inverteds, sit-downs, hypers. actually, it makes a lot of sense to have armrests on B&M hypers 'cause they've already got lazyboy seats ;)

I heard someone say that they can go up further during the ride. Is it possible for a short person to not be able to touch the ground after a few clicks.

I have never ever heard of them going up during the ride, The seats don't really click anyway and I belive your body weight would keep them from picking you up even if they did somehow "click" up.

thanks GregLeg...it was nice to hear someone not bash TOGO, haha :) i shouldnt say that though, seeing as how ive never ridden a B&M. but i totally agree with Greg, the Shockwave does allow for manueverability and, if you dont push your shoulders into the harness, it delivers GREAT airtime...but B&M is callin, well see one day :)

I'm soooo small I could have gotten out of Mantis. But why would I? it's a great ride! (except for the restraint system!)

IMO, the restranit system can be very painful on a male. But females might enjoy the ride a little bit more.

The only Stand-up I know of is a little ride out here called Riddler's Revenge. The restraints on that ride are just perfect. I have ridden numerous times and they just keep getting better.

I've never ridden a B&M as well and at the rate it's going we probably won't see anything by B&M coming to SFA anytime soon so I'm not familiar with the restraints on their stand-ups.

The bike seat clicked up one me while going up the hill on mantis.I was standing with my knees slightly bent and i moved a bit and it went up just giveing me enough room to stand straight up and let me say it was the most painfull ride i have ever rode.
