Blocking? How does it work

I hate to ask such a duh question, but when it comes to blocking, I am clueless. Could someone give me a quick synopsis about blocking and its effective use? Thanks ahead to the brave soul who's willing.

Blocking in Roller coaster tycoon 2 is just to hold a 1 train until the other train leaves the station. Is it me or is Raptor at Cedar Point getting a little rough in the cobra roll?

Block breaks divide your entire track circuit into "blocks" where only one train can occupy a block at a time. So you'll never get more than one train between two block breaks and you will avoid collisions.

That's why trains will stop on block breaks because it won't proceed until the track ahead, to the next block break, is clear. It's very realistic and probably my favorite addition to RCT2. It tricky to get the timing perfect so the trains seldom, or never, completely stop on a block break. Just have to play around with it.

I actually make my coasters so that they stop for a little while at a complete stop on the brake run so its more realistic like SF parks ;).
