Block Brakes

Maybe it's just me, but I think the greatest addition to RCT2 are the block brakes. You can really do some interesting things with them. I made a wood coaster and timed the block brakes just perfectly. I sat back and grinned at the sight! Now, on to my Raptor creation! (with blocks).

Who knew blocks could be fun? ;)

Now if there were only a rocket coaster and holding brake on the impulse...

I have to agree. There's a certain satisfaction in getting your ride to "hit interval" and make it all work. Good times.

The only thing I dont likeut them is that a midcourse always slows it down to 4mph.

Not if you have it timed correctly. My midcourses dont even slow the train down unless it cant clear the block or if I have brakes before it.

Yes, if you have it timed correctly, you should be able to keep a constant speed. It's a tricky task, but it can boost capacity. However, I must admit, I hate the sight of block brakes on the giga... ;)

Has anyone figured out a way to make Xcellerator?

Well a brake run 200 feet in the air does look out of place.

I love me some blocks.

Are you sure?? I've never seen a block break NOT slow the train down. I read your post and then tested it with the "Blue Hurricane" (a pre-build hyper). The mid-course block brake slows the train down to 4mph everytime....even when I removed the preceeding breaks and run one train!!!

I don't understand, what's the trick to keep the block breaks from slowing the train....doesn't seem controllable to me. Thanks to anybody who can tell me.

It worked for me kinda.. But it has to hit the block kinda fast.. But I still dont get why we cant set a speed for it.. And so if the block after was blocked it would hold the train, but if not, it would be used like any other brake..

Are you sure about that where it doesn't slow it to 4 mph everytime because i've ran my coaster with one train and it had 3 blocks and it still was slowed to 4mph. Even if the block is cleared it still slows the train down to 4mph. Please explain how you get this perfect timing down because I thought that it always slows the train to 4mph. This couldnt be a bug could it?

The cleveland browns suck, if its brown flush it down, Go Bengals!

Mine slowed to 10mph..and 9mph.. and 13mph.. It all depends how fast it hits the block.

They don't always slow down to 4mph, but they do slow down. I'm talking about Kick saying that his trains don't slow down at all. That isn't right unless you're in a powered launch mode, then the blocks won't slow the train.

If your train does not slow down to 4mph when it hits the block brakes then they might not work in the event of a break down. My first wooden coaster did this, and it crashed when I had stuck restraints. Learn from my mistakes and put trim brakes in front of your block brakes so that they work properly.

If you think about it, then you should not have a problem with the train slowing down that much because your train should really make it to the next block from a dead stand still. Slowing it to 4mph will allow the remainder of the ride to not be too intense.
