So your PC specs somehow magically put the 'fun' back in the game?

Wow! I need to dump the OC'd AMD for one of them there magical Intel Fun Chips.

Or in less smartass terms:

While the performance of the game suffers on the best of systems, it's far from the only reason the game gets bashed.

It'd be a lot easier to overlook the poor performance if there were incentive to play. The CoasterCam is not the required incentive.

Even if it ran like a dream (and many of us have said over and over that it runs like crap on our hot machines), it's still not fun.

I try to like it, but it proves itself time and again that it's just plain boring after awhile. :(

I'm so sorry.

What specifically, other than riding your coasters, which could be done (and better) in No Limits, do you like about the game, Winningfreak? I'm just trying to understand so that I can comment.

The thing I like about RCT3 that is not in No Limits is that it allows you to build a whole theme park, not just roller coasters. Although it lacks in variety and performance, I still play it more than No Limits. Another thing I personally like is the micromanagement. I know that I am in the minority, but I am all about learning and teaching and this game is a good way to teach concepts of basic economics and physics to middle school and high school students.
You're sorely mistaken if you think the economics and physics are accurate in RCT3. In fact, IMHO, you are doing them a disservice if you are using this as an educational tool for those topics.

Now, if you were going to use it as a tool to show them how to piss off a loyal customer base by not responding properly to support issues, as well as design and perfomance flaws, then go right ahead. ;)

LOL, redman. That's the true economics lesson in place.

Speaking of which, we used to hear all the time about how the first versions of RCT were some of the best selling games of all time and how they dominated the 'best seller' lists for ridiculous numbers of weeks.

What's up with RCT3? The bragging isn't there. The bravado is gone. Where's the 'look at us' promo? I genuinely have never heard numbers on how well the newest version (and expansion[s]) have sold. Anyone know that info?

Because they're embarassing? They even pulled the TV spot so quickly I only ever remember seeing it twice ... maybe three times.

Yeah, but I'm wondering if anyone knows any numbers or knows where to find them.

I've looked and found nothing.

the porblem with all the games are they are all alike! not a whole lot new besides ridding the rides and updated coasters....

I personally really liked the first 2 RCT games. The 3rd one just seems to have too many bugs. Strange things would happen. A rollercoaster with a very high rating would suddenly drop to almost 0 for no apparent reason. A ride's queueing area would sometimes not allow any guests to enter, again for no logical reason. It was terrible before they released a patch for it. The first patch fixed some things, but there's still a lot of issues. It also requires a pretty powerful PC to thoroughly enjoy the enhanced graphics. The fireworks are a pain in the neck to figure out too. I think they tried to rush it out and emphasize the great graphics and new features, ignoring bugs and gameplay issues.

True the economics and physics are not accurate, but the concepts are still there. I am not quite a teacher, but I will be soon. While I do not plan to use the game in my curriculum, it can be used as a filler when I am not in the classroom and I know that the substitute will not be capable of continuing with my lesson. I will teach Technology Education, not economics or physics, but the concepts of them will be used in my classroom. For example, some of the students I will teach might not even know what gravity or friction is. With supplementation, the student can learn the concept of gravity and friction with RCT.
While the physics in RCT3 seem to be a bit off, they were pretty darn accurate in RCT2. Notice how many of the real rides had stats that were pretty darn close to their real numbers. I don't know how these things got screwed up in RCT3.
^You think so? I actually think the physics in RCT3 are better than RCT2. The friction in RCT3 seems to make the coasters behave more like they do in real life, in my opinion. For example, if I build a recreation of Magnum in RCT2, it would go way too fast through the pretzel turn, unless that turn is located really high off the ground. In RCT3, the coasters burn off speed quicker than they did in RCT2, which I think is more realistic.
I thought there was a trim brake on the pretzel on the real Maggie? That would explain why RCT2's went faster.

The physics (accroding to Mr. Sawyer, err, I'm sorry, Our Coaster Tycoon Lord & Savior) were 'darn near perfect', and to me seemed far more realisitic.

You sure about that?

Tekno, yes, Magnum does have a trim there. But, I find the friction in RCT3 to be closer to every real coaster. I was only using Magnum as one (not very good) example. A better example is B:TR. I did build a recreation of this in RCT2. If I made it the correct height, it would go way too fast through the entire circuit.
