Blacking Out

I don't think I have.

May have once though.

I don't remember much about my third (and final) ride on Steel Phantom. I remember everything up to the second drop and I remember opening my eyes twice during the ride and thanking God when I saw the train approaching the station. The rest of the ride I don't remember. I don't know if I blacked out, greyed out, or simply have selective amnesia and blocked that painfull minute of pure Hell out of my memory.

At age 32: Grey-out during second ride of the whole day in between the loop and dive-loop of Chang at SFKK

No.

I just had to quote you on this. ;)

By the way, I did experience tunnel vision on Goliath. Then again, I'd just eaten and a lot of my blood was hanging out around my digestive tract.

I've felt incredible g-forces in the loops on Dorney's Laser, but never to the point of blacking out. I guess it would be defined as a "grey out", then?

Iv'e never greyed out on an Orbiter but the one at the Meadowloands Fair in NJ was very intence. everytime the car swung under the arm I could feel my face push back a bit. Now thats a ride!!

I've only greyed out once and that was on S:ROS at SFDL in the helix portion. I freaked out until I heard some other riders talking about greying out in the same section. Then I was relieved because I thought I was loosing my marbles.

Dorney's Laser is the only thing Ive ever blacked out on.

I usually grey out a litle in bettween the two loops on the canyon blaster at the adventuredome.

I hope they kill that iron yuppie. Thinks he's so big. The great homer simspon

I experienced some kind of memory lapse the first time I went on Goliath, starting at the tunnel. I've never been close to it on the helix though.
Also, I start to see tunnel vision at the Circus Circus one during the two loops. Every time I go on that while I'm there, the tunnel vision gets bigger each time and sometimes black for a second or two. I have found a way to prevent this though, by tightening the muscles from the lower half of your body like fighter pilots do.

I don't remember greying out on Laser, or any coaster for that matter, until very recently. The only coaster that I ever even got tunnell vision on was Anaconda at PKD in the first car. And only right after the first 2 inversions, but I have never felt it on any other ride. Kinda freaked me out for a minute until I relized what it was.

Only Blacked out once, on MF about 3 weeks ago. That was the only time I have ever blacked out on a coaster and I was suprised because we ride the damn thing a few times a week.
Hi,

The best thing you can do to avoid blacking /greying out is to tense your leg and stomach muscles, this reduces the volume of blood that can pool in these areas (as it should be in your upper torso and head). This is what pilots are taught to do to resist the effects of high positive G. Unfortunately, they have a G-suit to facilitate the process and I don't think many coasters have that facility available! :-) Also, concentrate on your breathing; it's amazing how easy it can be to forget to get sufficent air into your lungs when your nervous! :-)

P.S. Don't overdo the straining!!!! You might burst a blood vessel, or even worse....Unexpectedly break wind! :-D

All the best.

Greyed out on Goliath's helix, and Two Face(I believe it was the backwards loop).

Didn't grey out on Lazer, but those loops definitely pack a punch.

Superman @ SFA. That first helix gets me everytime
The only times I ever grayed out on any ride was on Montu in '96, in the valley between the dive after the MCBR (which I believe was off) and the second vertical loop.

I've had gray-out on millienniumforce, Montu, and s:uf in the pretzel helix. Mind u on superman I was in the last row.
Both loops of Laser, my wife as well. She also felt it on MF.
I blacked out for about 1/2 a second on the cobra roll of TwoFace going backwards, and got tunnel vision on shockwave in the 3rd loop.
