Big Problem

This game irritates me. I have tried to run it for the past week after a while bu it doesn't work. The screen will load up, and I'll hear the sounds, but it will go back down to the desktop. Then I will bring it up from the task bar thing at the bottom, and I hear the sounds, but no animations, and it goes back down to the desktop after about 1 second. Any suggestions? I'm about to throw this piece of crap out. BTW, I did download that patch and it did nothing.

Sounds like you're throwing the wrong piece of crap out. Since the game works for so many of us, it must be on your end.

In cases like this, I'd say it's a hardware issue.

I doubt it. My computer is top notch. I e-mailed the tech support at infogrames, and I hope to get an answer. It also seems to be a common problem on the faq over there. If anybody has a solution or suggestion, they can still say something. Thanks.

Yea it is my home computer. I already restarted my comp. several times. Maybe it is because I have CD burning sofware on it. It says that if you do, then it might have trouble loading. Anybody else have a cd burner on there comp. that they installed and it didn't come in the comp?

Yup. Built my entire PC from scratch. Never had a problem running anything.

The only time I've ever had anything even remotely similar happen with RCT is that the game will kick back to my desktop if my PC hasn't finished booting (I'm a turn if off when not in use guy) and I try to start the game. From there I just bring it up from the taskbar and all is fine.

Based on my experience (as limited as it may be), it sounds like something else is causing it not to run or running in the background and kicking RCT to the taskbar everytime it does something. My TV tuner sofware will do this occasionally if I have it running in the background to listen to TV while playing RCT.

Maybe that's an angle you can go for. See what else is running.

I had this problem - just reinstall the game. With RCT2 you don't lose all your progress like with RCT1. This has happened to me twice (and the patch never helps) and I just uninstall, reinstall, and it works again for a while.

I have a brand new HP laptop with a CD Burner in case you're wondering about hardware (and it does have a TV-out port, but I'm not sure if that means I have the software for it or not?)

Well a TV-out port just lets you run to your TV as a monitor, correct? I don't think that would require anything from your PC (performance or resource-wise)

Mine is just the opposite, a tuner so I can watch TV on my PC while I do stuff. The cable splits off my cable modem and into the tuner. Unfortunately RCT2 doesn't window so I have to run it in the background and just listen. There's something the software does that takes priority over RCT every once in a while that minimzes RCT and brings the Tuner software to the front. It only does it if I'm actively watching TV on my PC. If I don't have it running, it doesn't effect RCT at all.

Well, I really don't know what happened, but I tried the game early around 6:20 yesterday morning and it worked perfectly. I don't know if this is what you meant, but my TV wasn't on at all, so maybe that had something to do with it. There was also a power outage for 2 hours in the middle of the night, so there are many things that could have caused it. It works perfectly now, but I'm still not sure what caused it, but I'm not complainin'!

Heh, not quite what I meant (the TV thing) but I'm glad it's working for you.

I didn't think that was what you meant either, but I'm not complaining.

It turns out it wasn't even a problem with RCT2, it's a problem with all the games on my computer. They kind of work off and on. I think it has something to with my CD burner. When it wasn't working, everything else was, but now I had to burn a CD and fix something in it, the games didn't work. RCT2, SimCity4, nothing was working. I gotta figure my computer out!

If worse comes to worse, if you are running it on XP, right-click on the shortcut and go to properties, then to the configuration tab. Set the configuration to Windows NT/Windows ME, and it might work, worked for me.

Also, make sure you aren't running any programs in the background. I'm using windows XP and I have games like RCT and C&C:Generals that won't run if I have large applications running in the background. Try the game after closing them using task manager or right-click the icons in the bottom right corner to close/exit them.
Well, I definantly know there aren't any other programs running, and I don't know if switching the configuration could mess up my system, so I still don't know what to do. Thanks anyways.
