BGW on a Tuesday

Associated parks:

Well, I have never really been that crazy about BGW, but finally going on a day that there were no lines really made me miss PKD. There just wasn't enough to keep us occupied, for a 45 dollar entrance fee. Now I won't go into all the details of what we did, because we did so much, but we got some great laughs when T.C., our resident "Mr. Macho" screamed almost the whole ride like a little girl on Nessie. We rode Nessie 7 times, BBW once(it is so rough), Alpi 7 times, and AC 16 times. Oh, and I got my 81st coaster credit on their mousie.

Nessie-8/10 I felt NO headbanging, and the ride had 2 great pops of air. It is not intense in any way, but very enjoyable.

Alpi-8.5/10 I used to think that Alpi was one of the best steelies in the country, but now it is just a very enjoyable coaster, with only mediocre intensity. THANKS TO TRIM BRAKES!!! Why in the world would they have a Hurculesesque trim on an inverted??? Well, it is not as bad as Hercules, but you do really hang over the first drop.

BBW-6.5/10 It was fun, but trims and roughness made it hard to enjoy.

AC-7/10 I do love the drop, and there is some good floater air on most of the hills, but it is all so tame. It really makes me think 200 f00t kiddie coaster. But we found a lazy rideop who didn't really check the restraint, so we got a little extra air. Fun ride, but not a top 25 coaster by any means.

Well, we had alot of fun, and NO the food is not the best, but it was filling. But PKD is at least 5 times better, even with BGW's short lines. Mabye if the entrance fee were like 20 bucks it would be better, but no competition to PKD in my opinion. I mean 5/5 coasters had trims or execcessive braking in some way.

I am looking forward to coastercon, and more rides.

I hate it when "cooaster enthusiasts" put down coasters. Why can't we just have fun on all of them?

Oh well, that's kind of sad, because I was looking forward to going back to BGW and hopefully enjoying it this time, because last time I didn't!

The park was very beautiful, but I thought it was overpriced and very gimmicky - too many shops, eateries, etc. and not enough rides, and the rides they do have are all overbraked.

Looks like I'll be going back to PKD in the afternoon.

Funny... As far as park prices go, I never considered BGW too high. Its right in line with everyplace else.

When I tink of Overprices and gimicky, of all the parks I have visited, only IOA comes to mind.

Kind of hard to take a post as objective if a park or coaster name is part of the "user name"

Exactly SLFAKE, my Dad, who doesn't ride coasters (or anything that spins), can pay the admission while actually getting something out of it at BGW. There's so much more to BGW than just coasters and rides, and the ones they do have are very well themed and give excellent rides.

Also - I do believe Nessie has trims so that the 2 trains can go through the loops at the same time (or so it was designed to be that way).

Nice TR anyways :)

WEll, i have never seen Nessie's trains go at the same time other than on fideos, so if that's why, I don't thaink it helps. Lol.

I do agree that there is much more to BGW than coasters, and for someone who dies not ride, it is a great place to be, but for coastergeeks like us who never set foot in 99% of the shops, I think that 45 dollars is a bit obsurd. Thats 5 dollars from IOA, and IOA is 2 times as big.(but IOA is the #1 overpriced park in my opinion)

Grant, you said that you sould be going back to PKD in the afternoon. YOu have the right idea. Becasue there are those brakes at BGW, the rides are not so much better at night, bur at PKD, there is my baby, Grizzly, argueably one of the tamest coasters in the morning, but one of my top 5 at night. Also, has anyone noticed the signs at BGW for waiting lines to form in certain places really far from the coaster? I thought it was strange, but I just don't know what they mean.

Maybe I was there on a good day, but the only breaks I fealt were on Nessie, and it nearly stopped before ever drop. BBW seemed much faster than it could possibly be. I could ride AC all day, and a couple of times I could touched my toes because ot the ejector air. And my whole family greyed out on Alpie several times. As a matter of fact I did feel the breaks on Alpie once, and was happy about it.

Who knows, maybe the next time I'm there, I'll walk away as dissapointed as you seem to be, but until that happens...

Well, sorry, I was not meaning t come off as if I had no fun. It was great, but I was just a little bit disappointed at how tame everything was. I agree I could ride AC all day, but it does not give me the kind of thrill, or airtime that I get on my Grizzly at night. Just for a hyper, it could be better.

I am being a total hypocrit with my sig, ain't I?

Each park has it's own strengths and weaknesses. My family drove 600 miles to visit BGW and bought a 3 day bounce ticket. We spend all of that time in the park (we never used the water park included in our ticket) and enjoyed our time thoroughly with rides, shows, and food for every interest and taste. On the other hand we could spend a day at PKD and that would be plenty. My point is that everyone, and every park, has their own style and not every park is for everyone.
Nessie and trains hitting the loops at the same time:

I read somewhere that if they run three trains on Nessie, they are pretty much timed so that two will be in the loop at the same time. If they run two trains, then the timing is off and you won't see it. If they only run one train... well then its pretty obvious that you will only see a single train in the loops at anyone time.

Big Bad Wolf rough? Hard to enjoy? Now I've heard it all, ladies and gentlemen.

SLFAKE is exactly right. And since you went on a Tuesday, I can guarantee that they weren't running all three trains. There's just no need to during the week. However, I will say I was quite disappointed with Nessie last October, because all three trains were running (it was a Saturday), yet none of them were meeting in the loops. It seemed that the first lift was running at an unusually slow speed, allowing the train already en route to execute the bottom loop before train 1 even got to the first turnaround.

i cant get enough of BGW....the park is so fun and there is so much to do....after i ride the coasters as many times as i need to to get my rush in. i go and watch all the shows and i feed the fish and ducks...yeah the park could use more thrill rides(huss) but i really enjoy it. Good Times
Here's what I think about those who say the admission is to high.

Sure, if your a sole coaster enthusiast who doesn't do anything but coasters, or you don't enjoy shows, you'll be dissapointed. But, really, is the park going to lower admission because you just ride coasters? No, your admission pays for the shows, flats, and more things. In my opinion, if you just ride the roller coasters, you have no right complain. You did not do everything you could at the park, and did not get what you paid for. It's not the parks fault either.

This wasn't directed at anyone, I just had to get it out :)

Eric, who is extremely excited for his 3-day trip to BGW and doesn't care what anyone says, 'cause he's gonna have a good time.

3r1c, how would the admission of BGW pay for the waterpark when BGW doesn't have one. I'm sure the admission of Water Country USA pays for that Water Park.

I haven't been upset about admissions because the coasters and flats are well worth it. When I first went to BGW, I also enjoyed the shows, but the second time I went, I didn't have enough time to see shows and get on all the rides since it was a Saturday. Maybe Nightride and I will see some shows since we'll have 3 days.

Free Falls on Drop Zone: 5!
Batwing Flights: 7!
Superman: Ride of Steel Airtime-age: 10!

Lol, yeah, I sure hope I get to see some shows, because I have seen everything else there. I will have great fun on the 3 days of coastercon, and I always love riding those coasters, especially the aging Alpi, because it seems so rickety for a B&M. Now even the lift has a little bend in it. But I really think that if the park has the kind of attendance that I see on Saturdays, they really need to add more attractions. But don't get me wrong, I love going there, and it is a wonderful park in my opinion. PKD's more intense(I did NOT say better or by any means higher quality) ride lineup fits me more. But I was surprised that on the busride back, almost all of the people commented at how bored thay got later in the day. Though they did not see the shows. But I always have fun there, it is just not my favorite park, because I prefer coasters to shows, and I would rother have the intensity, even if they are lower quality coasters at PKD.

And yes, I was saddened about the state of BBW. It was very rough, and I don't think anyone in our group rode it more than once. Sad to see a coaster like that go to the sparrows.

My bad. I thought WC USA was part of BGW. Kind of like WWK and DP.

PKD is way overrated. The park itself looks trashy. Will all the cracks and patches of the gravil. If it rain there are puddles everywhere and it gets a moldy smell. The park is even unlevel! I enjoy BGs rollercoaster a whole lot better than PKD. KD will just buy anything thats new or somthing that will attrack guest. All of BGs rollercoasters are greatly themed, placed to interact with the inviorment, and is worth the wait. KD just places a plain rollercoaster anyway. For EX, the XLC, KD just bought the fastest blast off, it has no theme to it what so ever, they just placed it right in the middle of the walkway, and you wait hours for a ride thats over in 15 seconds! I'll admit I loved the blast off but other than that what else is there to the ride? The only 2 rides that have some sort of theme or good placement is Flight of Fear and Volcana. BGs park is very clean, and has a beautiful landscape. Dont get me wrong I like KD but I would rather go to BG way more.
