Best Way to Do: PKI, SFKK, & HW

I'm planning on visiting these parks soon, but I really don't know what order to hit the parks, as well as how to hit them. (Assume I'm going any time in the year, except on holidays)

1) What order should I do them in? (HW, SFKK & PKI, or PKI, SFKK, & HW)

2) What would be the best day to hit the first park, and still ensure light-medium crowds in the other parks?

3) How many days should I spend at each park and still be able to ride all the coasters (except for a few kiddies) and enjoy the park?

4) What's the best way to spend a day at each park? Are there any available discounts for HW or PKI?

That's a lot of info, but I'd be grateful for any help!

You knew me; I didn't know you; I knew you not. I met you, and I no more knew you not. Now I know you, I wish I knew you not. You wish you didn't not knew me not?

I would hit PKI on a Monday, Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom on a Tuesday, and Holiday World on a Wednesday. PKI will be very uncrowded on a Monday, if you can't go on a Monday, go Wednesday, lines will be very short you'll walk on basically every coaster except for Face/Off and that'll be about 30 minutes.

You can easily do all these parks in a day as I did everything in a day 3 years ago at SFKK, if you want to get alot of rides on PKI coasters stay 2 days, but you can do it all in one day as I have done it all in 8 hours. I'm not sure about Holiday World, but I bet you can do that in a day.

You can get cheap PKI tickets from AAA, if your an ACE member you got half off, Blockbuster videos in the Cincy area have tickets for 31.99 and their website has them for 36.99.

I'll be the first to wish you a great trip to PKI and have fun at our park. Make sure to ride Tomb Raider: The Ride as the line won't be over 30 minutes. Also Drop Zone is one of the best rides in the park, you gotta wait it out though.

Warning: I would get at PKI at 10 and do Drop Zone first.

SFKK and HW seems to be a pretty standard 1-day trip. I've done it myself several times and easily hit all the coasters and major flats at both parks. (I've gone either early or late in the season, though... July and August will be much more crowded)

If you do SFKK in the morning and HW in the afternoon, you gat one extra hour due to the tine change (HW in in the central time zone)

1) Definitely do HW last, because it is the best-managed of the three parks by far. If you go there first you may be disappointed with the others -- that happened to us with SFKK.

2) I think Tuesday would be best to hit PKI, but I've never been there during the week. On busy days you can completely forget about the Beast -- it set a queue line record at 3.5 hrs (no joke) for us when we went. SOB will also be well over an hour, and Face-Off is so inefficient it will be a decent wait regardless of the size of the line. So definitely do whatever is necessary to avoid Fri-Mon (Monday was actually very busy when we went).

As for SFKK, one day (Wed or Thurs) is more than enough. I was just there on the 6th, and the slowness of the ride ops and lines is just something you'd have to be there to believe. Worst-managed park I've been to. But we still managed to ride all the coasters and good flat rides, some more than once, in about 6-7 hrs -- and that's on a Saturday. Sorry for throwing some bad light on one of your stops, but I'd still go because the rides are much better than one would expect.

HW (Thurs or Fri) -- depends on how much you like riding a great coaster over and over, and how much you like water rides. You're guaranteed to get plenty of rides on both woodies, but the Legend is good enough that we considered staying around another day just to ride it. We didn't go to the water park but could have easily fit in a few hours that we spent riding the Legend. But if you don't like to ride stuff MANY times in a short span then one day is plenty.

3) One day each for SFKK and HW should be enough unless you want to stick around at HW. Probably one day at PKI, but someone else would be able to answer that one since I've only been there once and it was crowded then.

4) HW -- Legend first, a regular there told us that the raven has much shorter lines, sometimes none at all, during the day. And I've heard it's a walk-on in the evening. They don't have much in the way of flat rides and it's a small park so you won't have to spend much time away from the coasters or the water park. Discounted tix are $22 at local hotels, or $4 off with a Pepsi can, or 1/2 off with coaster club membership (which CoasterBuzz counts for if you've paid).

PKI -- I think ACErs get in for 1/2 price but I can't be sure. I know that they do a walk-back and give a free pre-opening ride on the Beast (or Tomb Raider, I've heard) for anyone in ACE, so if you're a member get there early.

Hope that helps...

I'll add that there are many good trip reports for HW and PKI. They will tell you a lot.

Don't go to PKI on Tuesday, it's Two for Tuesdays and that lengthens the line about 20 minutes and you don't have a gold pass so it's a bad idea, Mondays and Wendesdays are very empty as I said, SFKK is very poorly managed, but PKI is very well managed and rides are always running at the best capacity.

Wow, I guess PKI has gotten much better at management recently. We were pretty much disgusted with that aspect of the park when we went, and that's one reason we left so early the second day. It was at the bottom of the list before I went to SFKK. But if they're doing better (which they must be if they've got the queue lines moving) I'd like to go back sometime. That park would be tough to beat...

What was wrong when you went if you don't mind me asking?

My best piece of advice: Skip SFKK ;)
