Best time to make a trip to the Point?

My dad has finally decided to take me to coaster nirvana this summer, so I need a little advice from you vets who have been before.

We are planning on spending 2 or 3 days in the park as we are from NC and its quite a trip up there. Our choices are either the last week of May (on weekdays) or early on weekdays in August. I have a feeling the August days will be more crowded (considering Sandusky schools dont get out until June 7), but the days are 3 hours longer in August than they are in May, and Dragster has a better chance of behaving itself later in the season.

Does anyone have any suggestions on when would be the best time for me to visit? Late May or early August on weekdays.

I would go while Sandusky schools are still in session. Out of your 2 choices, I would pick late May.

MF runs better in August and I love night rides on many of their coasters. However, long lines get old even if you have enough time there to wait in them. This is really your call.

Whatever you do... just don't go in late June during the weekdays... ;)

Everybody stay home during that time! There's no need to goto the park during those days. Especially Wednesday & Thrusday at the end of June.

Go in August 'cause it's warmer outside & the rides will have been up & running for awhile. The staff will have been well trained & they'll be running at full capacity!

I would go in late May as well on a weekday. Not sure when Physics day is, however.

Last year I went on a weekday in May thinking the park would be empty, only to find that there were kids everywhere. But in previous years, weekdays have been very very good to me, including walk-ons on Millennium Force and Raptor all day.

Physics day is May 19th

Definitely May. The park will be less crowded and I'm sure you will find the coasters just as thrilling as you would in August. You'll get in everything you want to do and have time for more. Have a great time.
I would say definitely go in May.
May will be far better than August. If you plan the last full week and stay Friday, the park will be open untill 10 pm and you will get in some night rides. MF, Magnum and Raptor are great at night. There is nothing like a front seat night flight on Raptor. If you go the week of May 29 into June, the park will be open till 10pm each night. Just something to think about. There may be more people there for the holiday though.

Lucky Sanduskians.... School here gets out June 17th. :( Im hoping to get there at the end of August this year.

My first trip to the Point was late June in 2003, The 29th threw July 1st and I didn't find the park to be to overly crowded but maybe that was due to the fact that TTD was broken down for weeks. The weather was also outstanding that time of the year. My next trip to the Point is this June 1st threw the 6th, and I am pretty sure it wont be that crowded. The weather should be nice and not to hot where its a burden to walk around for hours.

Let's buck the trend, shall we? My first trip to the Point was during true weekdays (Tuesday and Wednesday) in the first week of August. Neither day was overly crowded (though the second day did have a lot of crowd-clearing rain). My second trip was on a Wednesday or Thursday (can't remember for sure) in late July. Gorgeous weather, and no more than a twenty minute wait for everything, excepting Millennium Force, Raptor, and Mantis (this was before TTD). Big rides, I know, but when you've got more than twelve hours to play with, you can wait in a few big lines and still feel like it's a nice, well-paced day.

On the other hand, while I've never been at that time myself, it doesn't seem likely that you could go wrong to go early in the season. So, I'd say that you should let non-park concerns, if any exist, guide you, as you're probbly good either way. Just do not go on a weekend, especialy at peak season (that was my third trip. *shudders*).

Late September and October Halloweekends are the best time to visit. :-P

Some of the KI crew and I are going up to Geauga on the 31st and CP on the 1st does anyone know how crowded it will be? Just kidding. I'd say May as well. The coaster won't be running a whole lot different, and you'll get on more that way.

The Sandusky schools example comes up every year, so I won't rehash it again - except to remind everyone that one local school district does not have an effect on attendance at an amusement park. Think in general terms. Schools in the Midwest, in general, start to wind down in early June.

Cedar Point's operating hours can be a good tool for planning a trip. The park wouldn't close at 8 p.m. if there were 50,000 guests roaming the midways. See this FAQ entry for more tips. There are always exceptions (re: Physics Day).

Weekdays in May are a great time to visit.

The park hours pretty much tell you all you need to know, with one caveat: if the waterpark is important to you, and you are from south of the Mason-Dixon, it is very unlikely that you will want to get wet for recreational purposes anytime during the month of May in Sandusky.
