I love roadtrips too. I'm a geography geek. I enjoy the trip from San Diego to Knott's. A good portion of it goes through the undeveloped Camp Pendleton and 3/4 or it is a coastal drive with breakers on one side and mountins on the other. By the time you get to boring Orange County, you're practically there. It's a little tough coming back home though.
The same route plus another hour and a half gets me to SFMM, but the length is a bit much. And once you get to OC, it's an hour and a half of sprawl.

I can fix anything.....where is the duct tape?
But the best ever would have to be to Alton Towers. It's breathtaking.

The drive from Pittsburgh to Knoebels is gorgeous (note that I don't use the PA Turnpike, but rather US22/220 to I80)-----------------

Yeah well that I-80 route was so bumpy with expansion joint construction that I just hoped to have teeth left by the Elysburg exit :)
Chuck, who agrees its beautiful and only 1.5hrs from Lakmont :)

I'm sorry but anything I have ever driven in Indiana and Ohio has been horribly boring. All I've really done is the turnpike to CP and 65/71 to PKI. Driving through PA I thought was really cool though.-----------------

I agree with driving in Western Ohio and in Indiana, but once you get into southeastern ohio (Zanesville, Stuebanville, Marietta, etc.) it get's really hilly and is real scenic in the Fall
I love the drive 2 CP, I get on Route 2 and it's pretty much a straight shot. 2 lane highway, and once you get out of Cleveland there is very little traffic.
On the otherhand getting to SFWoA is a pain. Having to drive through Cleveland through traffic and taking 5 different highways is no fun.
My favorite drive would be to SFA, because if I leave from work, I can be there in 30 minutes.
By the way, those 2 hours and 10 minutes driven back from BGW by 2 Hostyl were done in my car. I only got nervous after I realized our record time.

My other car is now an Arrow X4D!
Knoebels: US 119, US 22, US 220, I-80, and a few more that I can't remember. The highlights of the trip are cutting through the mountains on 22/220 and the road leading from I-80 to Knoebels.
Kennywood: PA 51 and PA 837. Nothing particularly interesting about this one, except for maybe the steel mills, but I still get a thrill of seeing the Pitt Fall peek over the top of the hill coming through Duquesne.
SFA: US 40, I-68, I-70, I-270, I-495, and US 50. I love the National Road and the so called "National Freeway," but once I hit I-70 the traffic gets rough.
Holiday World: For the same reasons that Den mentioned in his first post.
Hershey: I love PA Turnpike history and the tunnels are just great. :)
There aren't any drives that I really hate, but there are less than enjoyable ones such as PKI, SFWoA, and CP.

I think one of the best drives would be is going through the Wisconsin area and the Wisconsin dells going down on I-94 east to Chicago. I enjoy going through the dells area one of the nicest drives. Carefull going on I-94 going to the dells troopers love to sit in the center for radar patrol .

Gotta disagree with you about I-94 - it's boring as dirt. However branching off to I-90 heading back to the Twin Cities usually gives you lots of good views of eagles and hawks flying overhead. And the scenery really gets cool if you come up 14 just past Lacrosse amidst the Mississippi River bluffs. Adds a little time but worth it if you are traveling during daylight hours.

Im always in awe when driving to CP. I catch a glimpse of the park across the lake briefly, and when you get on the causeway....
Wow.
I remember walking from the campground to the PKI enterance, seeing basically woods or what not until the gates, but that was a long time ago.

Why are there soooo many columbus folks here?
Count me as a Buckeye, too...and I hate all drives from Columbus.
-----------------
Doesn't it seem as though morons always have the caps lock on?
Why so many Columbus folks? Because Columbus probably is the major city that is surrounded on all sides by the most coasters!
Either that, or we have nothing better to do but surf the Internet all day... ;)

Favorite drive to a park for me is going to Indiana Beach from Chicago because:
1) I love getting out of the city on weekends whenever possible.
2) I love the drive through all the small towns on the way to Monticello from I-65. Reminds me of the small town I grew up in.
3) Driving past the NW Indiana industrial wasteland on the way back to the city at 2 am is eerily cool.
4) The drive down I-65 reminds me of my days at Purdue.
5) I know I will be riding the Cornball Express soon.
I also have to agree with GregLeg that the drive from Pittsburgh to Knoebel's is beautiful, along with the added bonus Lakemont stop-off that Chuck mentioned.
I also had a really great drive from Pittsburgh to Hershey early last summer, and really dug on the tunnels and rolling landscape that Joe Cernelli mentioned.

I can't think of a good signature.
I'm joining this thread late, but here's my #1 choice: The drive I-64 to Holiday World. Not only is it pretty, but you just can't believe there is a park out in the middle of nowhere. And then you round a corner and there it is!
Runner-up: the drive to Knoebels, especiall for PPP when the leave are turning color.
