hey guys,
haven't posted in a while (damn school), I had a question about the beams that jut off of the sides of the immelmans on the dive coasters (sheikra and Griffon). http://www.screamscape.com/html/bgw_-_griffon_0.htm
here is a pic. I also noticed last time that I was at BGT that they have them taken off. Is this for construction equipment or what???

They're going to hold netting that isn't installed yet, is my guess.

You can see the same idea on Alpengeist here, I'm sure there are better pictures out there.

I would guess they are there to attach netting to keep lost articles from hitting people. But if they are in fact gone now, I don't know. :)

In the Alpie pic, the beams are on the other side, perhaps so that items that flew off going into the inversion, don't come back and hit the riders as the train is exiting the inversion. *** Edited 1/13/2007 10:41:49 PM UTC by Acoustic Viscosity***

Those beams are used on Goliath at La Ronde to hold nets that prevents loose articles from falling off in the water or parking lot.

There are similar beams on Hydra as you go up the lift for netting to catch loose articles as well. I noticed it particularly during the construction of the ride. Unfortunately I can't find any pictures online at the moment.

There are also beams holding nets under the lift hill on Sheikra if you pay attention.

Why don't you just refer me to section 1 of the TOS? ;)

No no no! Everyone is wrong. They are tuning devices so the ride doesn't tear itself to pieces because of the harmonics. Gosh, nobody knows nothing around here. ;)
