I just finished watching POV of this ride that's located in Japan. Is this a hypercoaster?
Does anyone know the manufacturer of this ride also? The beginning looks very similar to Raging Bull, but it was built before the bull. The layout looks a lot like most of the new Hyper/Giga's in the U.S. now also.
Where did you see the POV? Is it online? I have never heard of this ride. That's not really a surprise though, considering its location.

The Bandit was built in 1990 or 91 by Togo of Japan. Its located in YOMIURI LAND near Tokyo.
Its actually the 2nd Hyper after Magnum, but i think they didnt call it "hyper" back then. I had the chance to ride it in the winter of 92 when i visited japan. It was the biggest coaster i have ridden back then and it was very exiting. The whole amusemnt park is located on a mountain. As many japanese amusement parks its not a big park, but offers a waterpark and lots of theatres and leisure grounds. The park is (again as many other parks)owned by a private company which is not amusement related. In this case the owner is a man who owns the Yomiuri Express (a big daily newspaper)an´d as well a private underground line (all the underground lines era privatised in Tokyo, which makes ticket buying quite complicated). When i was there they had a giant (and i mean GIANT Togo Ferris wheel, which was quite amazing, since the whole park is on top of a mountain and you can see Tokyo spreading in the distance), some flatrides made by Togo (especially the Rock n´Roller which is a weird sort of double ferris wheel) Then there is a Togo single loop stand up coaster with a train-switch station. You can chhose between a sit-down and a stand up train.
Some Bandit features are a huge first drop, an overbanked high turn. Bunny hops, a 540° upwards helix and the grand finale resembles Kennywoods Thúnderbolt. After cresting some bunnyhops in the woods you suddenly drop into a huge unseen ravine. After the turnaround on the opposite hill you drop again back to the ground and after some more airtime hops (which are spoilt by disturbing OTSR)you return into the brake run. Bandit is slightly themed to a Viking design and is brown and yellow coloured. As everything in Tokyo, the ride is extremely expensive, and so i could only afford two rides. The long drops into the ravine are about the same size as Manhattan Express in Vegas.
Actually, Bandit came before Magnum-XL. It was the coaster that gave Cedar Point the idea...

SOMETHING IS COMING!!!
In 2001 a new *beast* will rise at SFMM.
Do you know when Bandit was built?
Everybody believes that it was built after the Magnum which opened in 89.
I'm not exactly sure when Bandit was built but it was before Magnum. Also, it wouldn't fit the generally excepted definition of 'hypercoaster' because it neither has a hill or drop of two hundred feet. I guess it would be considered a 'junior hyper' much like Steel Eel. There was a website that I saw once that had more info on Bandit. I will try and re-locate the site for all.
Pretty cool footage. That file must be new, because I thought I had already downloaded everything from that site. Nice footage, cool layout.
