It's not that a destination with mostly thrills can't be profitable, it's the amount of money it takes to get it up and running vs projected income. A waterpark doesn't take as much capital to open, and therefore wouldn't be saddled with such a huge price tag. Magical Midway doesn't have any hugely expensive rollercoasters that I can tell, So while it has some extreme rides, it too does not have the costs that this proposed park will have.

If there are plans to have family friendly ride areas within the proposed thrill park, it wasn't mentioned, and might change my opinion. But I'm going off what scant info has been put out there. I won't categorically say it won't make money, just that I'm dubious about how fast such an endeavor could get out of the red. :)

Or beaucoup bucks even! ;)

If Disney would have moved forward with their villains park long ago it would have been the logical location for a "thrill" park aimed at teens and young adults. And, it would have taken a little hot air out of the balloon that is Harry Potter.

The pricing on a park like that is critical. It can't become the teen hangout for Orlando and or attract the gang element. At least for grad nights schools bring chaperones. I could see there being some real significant security issues. Price it too high though and you have trouble drawing folks who aren't so interested in thrills along with their thrill seeking families.

We have Boomers down here near Ft Lauderdale and it has the Dania Beach Hurricane along with go karts, video arcade and some other "thrill" rides. I won't go near the place at night...with or without my kids.
