Atlanta amusement park inside CNN complex.

Last summer, (I know, I know) I took a tour of the CNN complex. The guide said the complex was an indoor amusement park before it was bought by CNN. There is a huge escalator inside, he said it used to be the lift hill frame of the roller coaster. Anyone know anything about this? I've searched all over for it, its not on RDCB or anything.

Where was this at?

I took that tour, and they said nothing about the escalator being anything than the world's largest escalator.

The indoor amusement park bit is a big inside joke at CNN and throughout the Atlanta area. The CNN complex was built for CNN.

goofy you know this how? I was just saying what the tour guide told me...

That would be a strange place for a coaster. If I remember right, a good number of the hotel rooms face the center of the atrium that you're talking about.

"Look, we all go way back, and uh, I owe you from the thing with the guy in the place and I'll never forget it." "That was our pleasure." "I'd never been to Belize."

There WAS an amusement park in there. But that trusswork was always an escalator. Longest escalator supported only on its end points or something like that.
The park was based on the World of Sid & Marty Krofft, and somebody has a web page which includes scans of the park map and brochure.
It didn't last long. But that's what used to be in there.

Update: I found this link to Steven Wilson's web page.

Does anybody know why the park only lasted for a year? Was the CNN building actually built just for this amusement park?

Geez...I long forgot about the Krofft's and their shows, HR Puffnstuff...Looking back at that, it's not surprising that the shows came out when they did (all their characters look kinda acid trippy - if you ask me)...

That being said, I wish someone had photos of the place...it looks kinda neat

I knew this sounded familiar! I think E! Entertainment did a biography show about the Kroffts and included interviews and footage about the park. If I recall correctly, they were broken hearted that the park idea wasn't a success.

I thought the park had some kind of human pinball machine ride.
