Atari finally releases RollerCoaster Tycoon 3D for 3DS

Posted | Contributed by VitaminsAndGravy

It's been eight years since the last RollerCoaster Tycoon game, RollerCoaster Tycoon 3, initially hit retailers. Now, thanks to Atari, gamers can once again enjoy the thrill of creating their own roller-coasters and amusement parks with the release of RollerCoaster Tycoon 3D for the Nintendo 3DS.

Read more from KXTV/Sacramento, and read a review from VentureBeat.

I guess I know what I'm getting my nephew for Christmas now.

The review is less than glowing. I think if you take the third installment and run it on today's hardware, it will perform exceptionally well. The problem is that it should really have used the rules engine from the second, non-3D game. While it wasn't difficult to win those scenarios, they were quite fun and there was a consistent way to play them.

He is only 10. He has not played any of the previous renditions. So, he won't have any base point to be disappointed from.

I wasn't responding to you, I was just stating my general opinion.

The few reviews I've read have not been good. It seems there are some very important features missing, like no height markers on roller coaster tracks.

Oh, and Amazon.com says it is currently out of stock.

Under $33 online including shipping.

I guess if I looked before linking, I would have seen they are all pre-orders.

Even with the bad reviews, I'll probably still get it eventually once it drops in price. Other than the games like Mario and Zelda, it has been very easy to find 3DS games for under $10 new if you are willing to wait a few months.

Simulation games just don't work well on handheld devices imo.

Yeah, there's a Civ variation down to two bucks for Windows Phone right now, but I'm still not sure I would enjoy it that much.

Glad I read this. I just cancelled my order. In any case, I can't wait for the new Sim City to come out in February.

^I've noted before that I can't vote up. But I've never want to vote up a post so badly.

The amusement park rises bold and stark..kids are huddled on the beach in a mist

I know it's a dead meme, but that was quite funny. And I have to vote up originality.

Here's another, possibly less-glowing review of the game. Doesn't seem worth the money at all.
