Atari announces RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 demo and pre-sale deal

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

Atari has announced the release of the RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 demo for September 27, about one month in advance of the actual game. Customers that pre-order the game will receive a code that allows them to download a set of rides designed by John Wardley for use in the demo.

Read the press release from Business Wire.

Would it be a terrible thing to just skip RCT2 and go straight to 3? For I haven't really had the time to finish 1 yet...but I'm slowly working on it. Is it necessary to get 2 in order to do well in 3? Or could I conceivably, from the skills I've gained in 1, do well in 3? Anyone?
I bet you might get a better response to your query come Sept. 27.

It would be horrible! Oh the humanity! ;)

It'll stand on its' own just fine. They're not expecting everyone to have played the first two.

I was on the Atari forums for RCT3 and they said the demo would be released on September 20th. I don't want to wait another 7 days plus! Oh well, anything for my precious.
September 27 is my birthday! Wow, what a great present!
They said that they were targeting to release the demo on Sept. 20. This is an official press release that says otherwise...which one do you think we should believe?
The targeted 20th date was mentoned in the Atari Forum by someone at Atari (who's also a moderator) - it was only mentioned in the forum FAQ, and that spread around to all the boards.

The 27th is an actual press release from Atari.

Yeah, I meant the question to be rhetorical.
Sorry CP, I should've realized that -- I guess after coasting through the official RCT3 forums, I've become accustomed to some pretty shocking questions. :-)
Is the release date just for PC and Mac? or will it be hitting the PS2, X-box etc.. etc.. also?
NO Mac. Just for PC. As for other systems...wait a year or two and see. Maybe, maybe not. Although why would anyone want to play this on a console? It's too difficult to use with a game system's limited controller.

If the 3D engine is tied to Direct3D, I doubt very much they'll port it to the Mac. If it's tied to OpenGL, there may be hope.
OMG I can not wait for this to come out. :)
Any way where do you download it from here or somewhere like fileplanet?

p.s. Who wants to destroy visionland with me anyone?
Alabama needs a park!!
