Astroworld Parking Idea

But if AstroWorld had been run *properly* (and was able to resolve the parking situation), it could have generated revenues exceeding the gains from selling the land. In econ, it's an idea called "opportunity cost", what you lose by sacrificing one option in favor of another.

I feel for the employess who've lost jobs due to the park closing, and the locals who had grown up visiting the place and have fond memories...and I'm trying to remain hopeful that this decision could be rescinded...but it does look pretty bleak.

"The company plans to move some of its equipment from AstroWorld to the Six Flags SplashTown water park in Houston." (From the AP)

How much extra land is available at SplashTown? Is there a chance that maybe Astroworld is planning to relocate?

It's been done before.

as much as i hate to say it but only the waterworld equipment is going to splashtown :(. i wish six flags can move astroworld to splashtown but it's never going to happen and + all the land beside splashtown is all use up (i think).

i got a parking idea what if they make that big empty lot behind waterworld to a parking aera and then remove the amphitheatre to make it a parking aera too and then remove the A&W ranch to make it one big parking aera and make a south entrance wheir the old XLR8 exit uses to be, and use the front entrance and the brige for walkers, sound good? does somebody got a idea?

I think its a good idea, i have an idea what if six flags buys that sam's club land next to astroworld and make it one big parking lot.

(if they find parking than astroworld is saved)

This is where I hope to earn my pay....so to speak. Anyone notice the *strong resemblance* between the suspendeds and the supa-saturators? That would make Waterworld a waterpark with a difference...even Schlitterbahn doesn't have one of THOSE!

Is it likely? Probably not. Possible? I dunno. Worth investigating? Definitely....unless they already have plans for XLR8.

ya the plans for XLR8 is scrap metal :( . *** Edited 10/2/2005 12:49:52 AM UTC by skuller***

But, Six Flags has not confirmed or denied what will happen to the rides in the DRY park, so no one knows yet. For all we know, every single ride in AstroWorld could be distributed throughout the chain, although that would be highly unlikely for some of the coasters.

What we DO know, however, is that most of Waterworld's attractions will be moved to Splashtown as long as they have enough room.

SplashTown won't get much! They are land locked too!

The park has very little free space in it! *** Edited 10/2/2005 5:57:39 PM UTC by Markieb***

Markieb, do you mean that Splashtown is too landlocked to get anything? Because Waterworld is the water park included with AstroWorld's admission and from what I gathered I thought that was going to be leveled as well.

Splashtown is the separate waterpark across town that's not right next to AstroWorld.

I wasn't sure how much room they had, so perhaps some slides from Waterworld will be scrapped or moved to other waterparks in the chain that could use them.

He meant Splashtown in that last post, he knows the difference. ST has a little room for expansion, and probably enough for whatever they want to move from Waterworld but not much more. Since stuff like the Wave Pool wouldn't move (Splashtown already has one, right?) that's half of Waterworld's land right there.

I really can't see anything from Astroworld ending up in Splashtown except perhaps Diablo Falls, but even that would make more sense to go to another dry park like Fiesta.

I figured he knew the difference, just wasn't sure. No biggie.

Things like the wave pool and lazy river can't be moved obviously, but perhaps some of the slides from Waterworld could be moved to other Six Flags waterparks like I said before(If they're laking attractions) and just scrap the others.

They did say, though, that some equipment would be moved from AstroWorld(Waterworld) to Splashtown, so they will probably get some of Waterworld's slides. The only thing in the dry park that could go to Splashtown is Diablo Falls and I highly doubt that is going to happen.

OOHPS yes Splashtown! I fixed it.

Just ride any tall ride and you will see they are landlocked pretty tightly. I believe when they said equipment, they actually meant that and not rides.

Other parks could use DF,it doesn't have to go to a waterpark ya know.

Although because DF/PBR use a concrete splash pool it might be kinda difficult to move it,they could send some of the queue theming to SFA though seeing as how we never got the spray rays & mayhem misters that were promised in the press release for the ride.

You vulture!

Fate is the path of least resistance.

Oh man BATWING FAN SFA that's terrible. Obviously the saddest thing in this entire post. Play the violin for me would ya!

Lol! Yes, it's kind of hard to feel sorry for someone who has a park with 8 coasters, including two solid woodies and an Intamin hyper, and is surrounded by tons of other parks in the surrounding region.

However, if SFA is the next target on Kieran's "Let's tear down the park and cash in on the land value, then use all the rides for cheap 'new' additions at our other parks" list, then he will have my utmost sympathy ;)
