AstroWorld or Fiesta Texas?

I will be going to Texas for a weekend in September. I will be doing SFOT, but which one of the other two should I do - they are only open at the weekends!

I prefer woodies to steel, I've ridden all the clones elsewhere (Boomerang, SLC, Poltergeist ), and I'm not interested in flat rides.

Anyone have any idea on how busy they'll be?

I was thinking about doing SFFT and SFAW on the same day. I know it's 200 miles away, but I've done two parks a day several times before.

Thanks for any advice you may have.

Let the world know your Top 10 Coasters at http://www.coastergrotto.zzn.com

I reccomend SFFT. It has the second best coaster in the state of Texas. That would be Superman Krypton Coaster. It also has a pretty good woodie in the Rattler.

On the other hand, if you prefer wood then you might just want to take in Astroworld. The Texas Cyclone is one of the best woodies around. The other rides, however, are mostly used rides that were originally at other parks. Batman The Escape used to be Shockwave at SFMM. XLR 8 was the first supended coaster that actually worked. It's pretty slow and boring nowadays while B:TE is plenty rough and not worth the trip. SFAW's best steel coaster is the Texas Tornado, a Swarzkopf looping classic. Unfortunatly, I've heard that it may be closed for the rest of the season. Serial Thriller is another Vekoma SLC. Myan Mindbender is pretty worthless.

The Texas Cyclone by itself is still worth the trip to SFAW though. But I really wouldn't miss out on Superman:KC at Fiesta. It may be a steel but it's a B&M steel floorless and easily the second best coaster in the state right behind Titan at SFoT.

Being from Houston, it would be really easy to say visit SFAW, but if you want a better, more pleasant, cleaner environment, more courteous employees, and frankly A better steel coaster, go to SFFT. Although you might want to take into consideration that Astroworld does have more coasters, although the best one there hasn't run since opening day<Texas Tornado>

Shoulder restraints? We don't need no shoulder restraints!
Fiesta! Fiesta! They've got some nice flat rides, and I believe some S&S towers. Plus, my favorite coaster, Superman: Krypton Coaster. Rattler is a very nice wooden coaster, Poltergeist was... good, and the Boomerang was pretty smooth. And nice "entertainment" too.
Okay, if you like wood, and that's all that you want, then Astroworld's woodie is better than the one at Fiesta Texas. Other than that, everything about Fiesta Texas is better. Superman Krypton Coaster, food, S:KC, staff, Superman, Scream, Krypton Coaster, Poltergeist, a great floorless coaster, and a fun log flume. Did I mention Superman Krypton Coaster? That thing is amazing! Plus, the Rattler is pretty good too.
Yep, I rode Superman:KC more than 50 times the three days I visited the park in July. I can say that it is truly awesome the way it makes use of the canyon wall to enhance the ride experience.

In my opinion it is second only to the mighty Titan at SFoT, but it's a pretty close second.

to me sfaw looks like a wasteland for neglected and uwanted coasters with no big signature ride . i think the choice is easy, SFFT.
If Superman Krypton Coaster was so great why isn't in the Amusement Today's top 25 list?
Because those lists are always EXTREMELY biased to the East coast (I.E. Cedar Point), and not many people have been to SFFT.

I see. Thanks for the info on that. I kind of thought they were a little biased like that.
Four words, Astroworld nasty, Krypton Coaster!!!!!!

Just a couple of G-force junkies!
Keep in mind, Fiesta Texas opens it's sections based on time.  The "Western" area opens at 11am, and the boardwalk opens at 12pm ...

While I'll agree that S:KC is a good ride, Fiesta doesnt seem to be taking very good care of it.  The wheels could certainly use changing, and christ the BEE'S in that park are outrageous!

Astroworld has done a good job in keeping the place clean lately..  I've seen Fiesta get just as bad on a Saturday.  To me, Fiesta has some of the most painful coasters in it's collection..  Boomerang (ouch!), Joker (OUCH!), Rattler (OUCH!!!)...  I've actually grown bored of Fiesta ... because the only coaster  I DO like there is Superman... RoadRunner is a fun little mine train, but walking 297 steps from entry of queue to the last row of the loading station gets old after 1 or 2 trips (does it REALLY need that much queuing?).

Scream is my favourite S&S tower ride (coz it's a combo), but they usually only run 1 .. maybe 2 towers.  Dungeon Drop, to me, is a much more intense drop ride, so I generally like it better.

Astroworld, on the other hand, has a painful SLC (they're all painful in my opinion) .. mayan mindbender is a fun little ride if you don't expect space mountain... Batman got new wheel assemblies this year and is not rough in the least anymore.  Texas Cyclone has no headrests anymore (that right there would make the trip worth it to me.. especially if you can get the blue train) ... Greezed Lightnin is a lot of peoples favourite shuttle looper... Ultra Twister .. well, where are you gonna find another ride like it in the country?  Plus, three of it's trains just got back from a refrub from Premier Rides.  Viper is smooth as glass as always... And well, I hate XLR-8.  But I understand it fills a niche' of a "family" ride in the park.

So, all in all, SFFT is prettier (9 years old compared to 33 years old), has more flat rides, better themed, has the most ineffective misters of any theme park, has a B&M signature ride, too many bee's, is intensly hot because of the quarry, and parking is $7.00.

Astroworld has more coasters, the ones they have are less painful, has a rich history, and shade baby, lots of shade.

I've actually done SFAW And SFFT in the same day.   It's about a 3 hour drive between the two parks ... doing 70mph...  I've actually done Sea World, Fiesta and Astroworld all in the same day, to be honest.
