Arrow 4D headed for Japan!!

Considering the enormous risk taken by SFMM, and the complexities of the ride, I think that taking the *cautious* route and waiting it out over 5(!) full years wasn't due to parks' thinking that the CONCEPT was dead, just the initial design/implementation...

To me, a 5-year window for the bugs to be worked out on SUCH a "leap of faith"-type ride, that was just plain....prudent! :)

Now, when does SFGAdv get one? ;)

You still have Zoidberg.... You ALL have Zoidberg! (V) (;,,;) (V)

That's what I heard as well. Bummer for those heading there in 05. :(

... and this is bad how to me? ;) I just hope it's Nagashima. My preference.

Rob - Who'll be there. Will you?

Rumor! Coasternet had reported the Japan 4D for 05, also two more were rumored to be purchased. one going to europe 06 and the other going to a park in the N. America 06.
I'm confused at where you're getting 5 years from, Gonch. X was built in 2001 and there's already been one in the works for some time now. A quick check at the calendar reveals it's 2004, barely three full years after X debuted.

Where is this five year thing coming from?! :)

OMG I have a new sig!!!

I still believe that many of the problems with X were due to it being built in a Six Flags park.

Prototype or not, Six Flags still have a bad maintenance reputation.

john peck: Six Flags didn't build X, they just ordered it. The problems were inherent in the design, not the plot of land in which it was built. If X was a "normal" height for a prototype (say around the size of Stealth) it may well have been a smashing success.

Arrow's designers simply overdesigned the layout compared to the limitations of their track/train design... once again. Remember The Bat? "Those that do not learn from the past are doomed to repeat it." RIP Arrow Dynamics

Pass da' sizzrup, bro!

Legendary - People generally think it will be built in 2006 making the opening of both 5 years apart.

Down is the new up.

What Word said.

Either count from the 2001 to 2006 openings or go back from the original design of X to now.

You got about 5 years either way.

Soggy....

True... but like I said, Im sure it wasent "all" Arrows Fault.
Park maintenance plays a very major park on how the ride is taken care of..... remember the lousy 3rd-party welding the park had done to it? Just to save a buck cost them more.

Arrow ordered what the park wanted, not the other way around. That being said, if Arrow had doubts about the height and speed SF was requesting they should have advised the client of that.

'Arrow ordered what the park wanted, not the other way around. That being said, if Arrow had doubts about the height and speed SF was requesting they should have advised the client of that.'

Maybe they did and Six Flags ignored them. It sounds like something they would do.

Hopefully this ride will be built and actually works and blows everyone away. Then we could see more in the states!

If memory serves me right, Arrow tried to tell SF that they hadnt planned on building such a loarge version of the ride, but SF pressed them (coughMONEYcough) enough and talked them into it.
So you heard the conversation between Arrow and Six Flags? To me it sounds like all these supposed conversations are rumors or maybe speculation that people took as facts.

Anyway though I really hope they can pull off this 4d, and have it be reliable. Id love to see more of these rides built in the U.S.

The fact that SFI may/may not have pressured Arrow into build a 200ft. model doesn't change the fact that Arrow built something they weren't totally comfortable with. The main reason for the problems simply comes down to underengineering on Arrow's part.

But having said that, X is still probably a Top 5 ride in my personal opinion. I would give anything to see more of these and hope they are sucessful.

Also, S&S must be really confident that they got the stress problems figured out if they are building "higher, faster". What are we looking at? 250ft. +? That would be insanity.

Great point!
There was another part of the post that didn't end up on there, but what I went on to say was the only quote I ever heard people say is that a park isn't going to buy a 4D UNTIL the coaster is proven, or at least re-designed, which proves that what everyone said was right.

I never heard anybody say that a 4D would never come again. If you can point that specific sentence out to me, then I'll admit you were right, but everything I ever read was 'not until they get it right'. Hmmm...

Guess it took them a few years to get it right then didn't it?

3001 pts everyone else

-2 pts DWeaver;).
