Arnolds Park turns profit for third straight year

Despite a decline in admissions to the amusement park from 2005, the board of directors of Historic Arnolds Park, Inc. (HAPI) announced another black-ink year of overall operations, the third in a row for the entertainment complex on West Lake Okoboji. Budget and finance committee chair Fred Dowden reported the net operating income for the 2006 season was $189,000, or $9,000 better than a year ago. Dowden praised the work of general manager Scott Pyle, who reduced total operating expenses by $100,000.

i think that is great news. However, you have to give kudos to the former GM Cary Parker who brought in the Hunt's Pier Log Flume, and re-organized the parking to allow some pay lots.

They should take that $20,000 and buy a auctioned 'family flat' ride in leiu of kiddie rides. There are many kiddie rides for sale all over the country. You can always pick one up after a great holiday weekend.

Fantastic news. I was there last Saturday, briefly. It was a cold end of season evening and there were several people in the park. I was surprised by that.

They really need to add some more flats. Flying scooters anyone? ;)

They *coulda* added some money to the bottom line by allowing us on that kiddie coaster.. ;)

Good for Arnold's...Lake Okoboji RULES! :)

Hopefully this will be a good omen for Conneaut Lake, another similar park that went through a lot of financial problems for a number of years.

I'm not sure what a cost-cutting GM at Arnold's has to do with CLP, Arthur, but I hope this is good for Conneaut too...I guess. ;)
