Are Coaster Designers/Manufacuters Enthusiasts?

Yeah, but those people have a degrees in engineering, architechure and are math geniuses. Yes, even the people that work in the actual on-site factories at the manufacturing firms.
I've read a few Curtis Summers articles where all the guy talked about was proper banking, elmination of negative g-forces and smooth transitions. Doesn't answer the question "Was he an enthusiast?", but it definitely shows that he didn't really appreciate the same things that most people appreciate about wooden coasters.

Only one enthusiast has become a designer.. Mike Boodley of GCI I don't know if any designers have become enthusiasts

Make that two. Michael Graham of The Gravity Group was also an enthusiast before he became a designer.

Nice! I should have said "One one that I know of....."

I can only imagine how hard it must be to get a position as a designer.

Ron Toomer wasn't... Jerk didn't even ride anything he made.

Ron Toomer is one of the nicest guys you could ever meet. I briefly chatted with him at one of the Coastermanias. Just because he doesn't ride his rides does not make him a "jerk".
