For my final in my Architectural History class, we have to research an innovation from at least three hundred years ago that we use today. I chose the early history of roller coasters in Russia when they were made of ice. I am then going to describe the mass innovations since.
I have been researching online, but can't seem to find much. Does anyone know of any sources (books, sites, etc.) I can research? The paper has to be at least six pages single spaced so I need to find a lot!

A thought: try the Library ofcomgress or contact one of the historical amusment site directly.
BTW, should be a cool paper. I might like to read it.

"The American Roller Coaster" by Scott Rutherford is a good source.

I actually have that book and plan to use it!
Hopman, thanks for the suggestion. I never even thought to search through government libraries. Maybe even patent offices would have some history.
I will send you the paper when I finish, which will take a bit. :0

The Incredible Scream Machine by Robert Cartmell is generally considered the definitive source for roller coaster history.

I was just going to suggest that. It's out-of-print and probably a hard find nowadays but it's worth searching for. Scott Rutherford's book is another good one. ACE published quite a few magazines featuring articles on the Russian ice slides but they might be even more difficult to come by. How soon do you need the info? PM me if you want to discuss further.

The paper topic is due at the beginning of November, and the final paper is due in December, so I have time to find sources.
The project also requires drawings and illustrations so I am trying to find that through ACE and books I have.
