Apollo's Chariot and Rides with Similar Restraints

I was at Busch Gardens, Williamsburg last week and loved it! I particularly liked Apollo's Chariot, which uses a non-intrusive restraint system that basically sits on your lap and has side cut-outs for the armrests. Nitro at Six Flags New Jersey uses the same type of system. What other hyper-coasters have implemented this type of restraint? They give great airtime and a feeling of being out in the open!

The restraints on Apollo's Chariot didn't really sit on my lap,but came up to my midsection with my feet about a good foot off the floor.

I'm pretty sure the Raging Bull uses the same restraints, can't remember at this moment.

Yes, Raging Bull uses them too.
Silver Star, the new-for-2002 B&M hyper at Europa Park in Rust, Germany, uses these "clam shell" restraints as well. IMO, they are *the* best restraints I've ever seen on any coaster.

Agreed, I love those seats. The four coasters listed above would sum it up for now, although I wouldn't mind seeing another at some point (that little Six Flags park by a lake in Ohio comes to mind; most people seem to think it'll be Intamin, but I think a Beemer would make sense as well)

B&M's restraints can be quite restricting, though. Gimme a good old Intamin lap bar anyday! Those things give maximum airtime!

The four B&M hypers. :AC, RB, Nitro, SS.

The one thing I like about the Intamin bars is the non-clicking. It gives a lot more control over tightness and (maybe unrelated) doesn't cinch down on high g pullouts.

I also like the longer Intamin trains. Gives a lot more kick in the front and back. Of course, it also means the front and back give half as many rides.

My top 5 are AC, PR, SRoS SFNE, MF, Nitro so I guess B&M barely edges out Intamin.

AC?, RB?, MF?, DD?, PR? Who can keep track of it all?

Theres one in Florida but not a hyper. I don't know the name of it though
They are nice looking and reliable, non-intrusive, but they clamp down on high G's. If they stayed up like Intamin's, they would be perfect. But they don't so I like Intamin's lap bars better.

I just looked it up on roller coaster data base. All of the Beemers in florida have OTSR. Anyone know which one hes talkin about?

I think he's lost. There are only 4 B&M hypers in the world. Tis all. We need more though!

Hmmmm I thought there were only 4 just thought I'd look anyways, I'd like to ride any B&M besides Chang I would be quite happy.

I onestly dont like then becuase some ride ops have a proplem of stapleing you with them, or i stapel myself becuase I get paranoicde of too much freedom, but like someone else said id take an intamian lapbar over B&ms.

Yes, Silver Star does have some pretty nice restraints. Laid back and comfortable with lots of leg room/space between trains. The only thing I saw that can be, I guess embarrassing, is not being able to fit in them. One time while I was waiting for the ride, I saw two people who got rejected within 5 minutes of each other, because their thighs were too big and the restraint could not clamp down. I will speak more in detail about that in my upcoming trip report. I don't know if it's true on the other B&M coasters, but the raised seat/tilt style on Silver Star can pose problems for people who have rather large thighs, either muscular or not, and can be rejected from this ride whereas they normally wouldn't be on other rides. Other than that, great seats, great airtime, great ride. . .

I like the Intamin lap Bars a lot better then the B and M footballs. You can leave yourself some room and with seat belts I don't mind that at all. I for one am all for seatbelts on coasters that give air. On Maggie for instance, even with the lap bar pretty much down as far as it goes. I still find that it is the seat belt that holds me in. I just don't feel safe with just a B and M Football on my lap.
