I just want to know if there are any other people like me who wanted to fill out the wooden coaster poll and said this is just too much. I looked at the process of ranking the woodies and it reminds me of one of those last problems in a math homework assignment that everybody just skips because it looks too confusing.
I tried writing down on paper my top 20 woodies. I almost couldn't get past 5. In the top spot I would put The Beast, but neither Raven nor The Legend will dare settle for 3rd. As far as I'm concerned, they are both second, or maybe even share first with The Beast : )
The point is, deep down I hate categorizing coasters, and there are too many wooden coasters that I just love the same as another, but for many different reasons. But I still think it is great that there is a non-popularity contest type of poll like this one. I just wish it were a lot easier.
Anyone else feel this way?

Go With Gravity & SFGadvMan - when I first attempted Mitch's poll if was overwhelmed, too. His directions are a little confusing. I have some helpful hints but they're on my PC at home. Email me and I'll reply with some help later tonight.

On Sunday, Oct 27th 2002, I rode The Orient Express @ WOF 60 times.
He didn't just do a simple poll because he likes to perform a lot of statistical comparisons on the data received. Mitch's poll is weighted to compensate for issues like how many people have ridden a certain ride and how many people have ridden each ride in that given year.
The poll REALLY is not all that hard to fill out if you read the instructions. Cut and paste the whole thing into a text file, then delete all the coasters you haven't ridden. Now, on each line, you will see two "N"'s, and then a space for a number ranking. Change the first "N" to "Y" for each coaster (make sure you've already deleted the ones you haven't ridden). Change the second "N" to a "Y' if you've ridden the coaster in 2002. Lastly, rank the coaster.
Delete the instructions at the top and leave the header info at the top and bottom that Mitch asks you to leave. Save the text file and send it back to Mitch. You're done. You'll then get an email confirming your entry and providing you with a link to look at the other ballots recv'd.

I didn't do it last year and I wont do it this year. There are other polls from time to time that are VERY easy to fill out. No offense to the really popular dude who made the poll, but I think ALL DAY. The last thing I want to do is think when I am trying to relax on the web.
After saying all of that, I do still respect what the poll dude is doing.
If you find ranking the wood coaster poll hard, wait till the steel one comes out. There are a heck of a lot more steelies out there than woodies.
If you find that you have three favorites, then rank them all as #1. You can rank them individually, in groups or a combination of both. Whichever is easiest for you.

I hate it. Too hard. We should number them first to last by either state or region.
I.E. Have them numbered 1-whatever for the east coast and 1-whatever for the west coast. or do it by state.
Edit:When I say too hard I mean that its too hard to choose which coasters should go where.

I did the pole this year and found it very easy. Just read the directions and you'll find the hard part is just ranking them. Most of the items in the directions are just various examples to rank them, such as grouping. Can't figure out which one's two or three? Group them.
Actually, the most interesting part of the pole was not #1, but which one was dead last. Son of Beast at PKI came up rock bottom. At least, that's my opinion.
Stop whining and do the darn thing. I found it to be very fun for me.
I did the poll this morning for the first time ever. It looks complicated, but it really isn't. Although, I wouldn't mind if anyone helped him make it easier, by making it all through a website with HTML and check boxes, and all that fun stuff.
I am not looking forward to the steel poll though. I only had to rank the 14 wooden coasters I've been on, but how am I going to do the 47 steel ones?

So am I the only one who cranked out a completed ballot in 5 minutes? It's was just The Legend followed by the Dash, and the others just kinda fall in behind there .
Nope, it was the first time I did the poll, and it did look complicated, but once I deleted the coasters I hadn't been on, I saw that it was really easy, and had it done and sent off in minutes. Even if you can't decide on a ranking between several coasters you can give them the same ranking.
