Anyone have pics of Chaos at Opryland?

According to RCDB.com, the Wabash Cannonball and the Knott's Corkscrew opened the same year in 1975.

Does anyone know where The Hangman was located within the park? I never got to visit Opryland after it was built.

The Hangman was located in the center of the park, near the Rock 'n' Roller Coaster in the western themed land.

In my opinion, Chaos was a great coaster. There was just something about the combination of the music, fun factor, and its uniqueness that really made it a fun coaster. The line always moved very quickly, and it was rarely over 45 minutes. I rode it well over 500 times, and I miss it along with the rest of the park.

Alot could have been done to save Opryland. Maybe SDC or other companies would have picked it up. But we'll never know. Gaylord deserves what it gets...and will eventually get...BANKRUPTCY! People ask why everything in or around the Opryland Hotel (oh sorry Gaylord Opryland<stupid name)is so high-simply put the Opryland Hotels is all it's got left minus the Opry and a few minor things. When it happens I hope the Opryland Hotels dont close-it's all of Opryland we have left.(minus a few rocks from GRR)BTW,is there anything left on property of Old Opryland (now Shopryland) other than the old rocks? enough for now-ill come back and lecture so more later :)

I wish somebody would buy the Chaos track from Old Indiana, and re-build Chaos exactly the way it was. Thats probably impossible, but it's fun to think about. Or they could just re-build it with all different theming. It wouldnt really matter to me. It would be neat to ride it again...does old Indiana have the trains still also?

Noone knows where the trains are for any of Opryland's coasters actually. They could be in storage at Old Indiana or somewhere else.Plus why did Six Flags resurrect Rockin'Roller Coaster over Wabash Cannonball?

Of course Old Indiana was sold last year. Opryland's rides may have finally been put to rest and are operating at that great amusement park in the sky.

Not much else remains of the original theme park besides some of the GRR rocks and The General Jackson Showboat and docking station/area. Also, some of the grassy berm built up around the park remains near the back of the parking lot and GRR rocks. It truly makes me sad.
When walking between the hotel and the mall, you can see the old Grizzly River Rampage area. The ground hasn't been refilled in, and the ride's old path is still visible. This park could have easily been turned around. For starters, they could have removed the pointless Barnstomer which sat idle 50% of the time and replaced it with an Intamin drop tower. When they moved the Skycoaster there was a large plot of land towards the back of the park that sat completely empty for a couple of seasons - anything could have gone there. They expected to make money on a park, yet they put absolutely NOTHING into it year after year. It is sad that a place that I used to spend so much time in (we went almost once a week) was torn down to raise a bottom line. In the end, the mall didn't even end up making near as much as expected. (what a shock...)

I find it odd that GRR's watery channels are still there left unfilled-not to say your lying-but I find that just plain odd. The rides entire course is still there?

Yes, just walk on the path from the hotel to the mall, and it is on your right - when I went to the hotel during Christmas the course was visible by plain sight...
I'm not quite sure why the Rampage Area was spared.

Speaking of things still there, After I sent an angry letter to Gaylord back in '98, they sent me a copy of an early concept drawing of Opry Mills. It is interesting though, in these plans I recieved, parts the New Orleans, Riverside, and Lakeside areas were planned to be left intact. On the plans they are labled "Future Shopping Attractions".

Apparently Gaylord had planned to leave parts of the Park, minus the rides, still standing. They must have ditched that idea, and simply built the Parking Lott over the Entire thing.

Applause to Dukeis#1 for writing Gaylord addressing Opryland's demise. Hmm...I wonder if every Opryland lover vowed (and stuck to it) never to shop at Opry Mills Mall again if that would bring that wretched mall to a close. I'm looking forward to the day when the mall is torn down and Opryland is rebuilt...bigger, better, faster, stronger! Yeah, I know I'm a dreamer.

Yes, I have personally seen the Grizzly River Rampage layout first hand from the mall parking lot still intact. I'm not so sure the whole course is left though.

Maybe they left GRR intact (if not semi-intact anyway) to reopen it someday. When opry Mills was in the planning phases, they planned on keeping most of Opryland's biggest attractions.(i.e. GRR,Chaos,Wabash Cannonball,Hangman)

But now that I think about it, since were talking about Gaylord, the prices to ride these rides would have been outragous.

Plus, if I get lucky and my Hickory Entertainment ever gets off it's feet I plan to rebuild Opryland USA+some new attractions that Opryland deserved.

I hear that park officials wanted to build a B&M Inverted--but Gaylord closed it first. Is this fact or fiction?

Not sure about that one. I'm not sure why they would if they already had Hangman.

But I wouldn't forget it. They were kind of weird in the way they ran things anyway. I never did understand why they moved the Skycoaster to the Middle of the Park, Built Chaos, Put Old Mill Scream over Eagle Lake, Didn't move the 2nd Train Depot to the back of the Park, or came up with that Fuzzy Purple Monster as there mascot in the later years either.

Where was the Sky Coaster located when it was in the middle of the park?

Nashville needs a theme park!

In the Lakeside Area, overlooking the Lake. I guess they did that to increase attendance or something.

It left that big Field over at the back of the Park empty, and like Michael19887 said, would have been a great spot for expansion, Just like it was before they evan built Skycoaster.

I no it's been a long time since anyone has looked at this but i just got my hands on 2 videos of Revolution the sister coaster of Chaos. Hope you enjoy who ever you may be.

Cool Video Jigga.

The station and ride layout seems exactly the same however the music and effects are very different from Chaos. I like these effects better, but I did like going through the wall of fire on Chaos...I thought that was cool. I can distinctly remember the 'winding down' sound as the train enters the station - the sound is in this video as well. I remember when riding in the very front car you would nearly get whiplash when you entered the station and hit the first 90-degree turn going really fast!

I was never a huge fan of Chaos. To me it was just a roller coaster that went in circles and the effects were never perfected. Opryland was my home park and so I will always have a soft spot for it. Sigh.
