I saw it, it was a made-for-TV special. It supposedly follows a novel by the same name, having read the novel only a very very loose comparison between the two can be made. (I.E. the novel is much more involved and has more violence than the movie. In fact all the key elements are completely different the terrorist is a sniper in one and a bomber in the other)

Basic plot line of the movie, a disgruntled employee of Wild Dunes Amusement Park (Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk) proceeds to cause several near-miss accidents that really put no-pne in danger, (when in the book the story sxtarts when a passenger is flung to their death by the rollercoaster having a deffective lapbar, in the movie the station brakes fail and the lapbars pop open as the train leaves the station for its second run, but relower at the top of the lift hill), the story escalates with a kidnapping and more as they try to figure out who is causing things to go wrong at the park.

IIRC: It wasn't that good when it first came out, lots of believability issues (like having a full computer keyboard for the rollercoaster instead of just a control panel. the electronic coaster diagram on the computer monitor does not match the layout of the real coaster, etc. )

It wasn't a bad movie, it looked like a take-off on Rollercoaster.
Thanks everyone for the info.

I saw it a long time ago, and it wasn't that bad. It actually kept my interest.
Funny, I thought that as films go, it really, really stunk. I've seen soaps that leave a better film than this one. If you can stand to watch it once, fine, but don't waste a videotape on it, and if you are busy doing something else and don't manage to watch it, you're probably doing yourself a favor.

Actually, the fact that it is airing on Lifetime ought to tell you something...... :)

I was one of the roller coaster riders in the movie "Thrill". Regardless of your opinion of the film, the cinematography of the wooden seaside gem, the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk's GIANT DIPPER, is excellent. I'd say that for any coaster enthusiast, the movie is well worth watching for the GIANT DIPPER footage alone. "Thrill", an NBC production, was a made-for-television movie that premiered on that network back in 1996.

Read the book,. It's much better (and more interesting) and though it lacks the views of SCBB, the movie doesn't do the park much justice anyway. Reading the book would be time much better spent.

Steven, good shots of the Giant Dipper I'll give you. Hardly makes up for the film's shortcomings in plot, technical accuracy, believability, realism, pacing, excitement...basically what you have are some good coaster shots, Antonio Banderas, some genuine roller coaster nuts, and a bunch of not-too-believable accidents in a pretty rotten movie.

Rollercoaster is by no means a great movie, but it is a much better movie than Thrill.

Rideman - Antonio Sabato, Jr., not Banderas. But other than that you are correct...the movie is a real stinker.

All right, Moosh, you got me. Gives you an idea how long it has been since I bothered to watch it! :)

NOT a walking IMDB!

RideMan,

All those other things aside, the GIANT DIPPER footage is still great! I know that you do not care for the movie at all, but some enthusiasts often just watch movies for the included coaster scenes. On that count, "Thrill" does not disappoint. I know some enthusiasts who collect coaster scenes from movies. They keep only the relevant scenes, not the entire movie. For enthusiasts like that, details like plot, believability, etc. are irrelevant. ;-)
