Anyone Else Miss Six Flags Worlds of Adventure?

We know that X-Flight isn't going, but we thought it was funny that employees were passing around their rumors to guests. :) I don't think the Steel Venom exit would be too hard to believe although I really like the location of the ride along the road and behind Head Spin. All the guy knew about the "Intamin pieces of ****" was that the skytower had gotten stuck or broken down 5 times in the month he had been there and that Steel Venom was having a lot of problems operating for awhile. It's just weird to hear them refer to their rides as that. I've talked to a lot of the ops and photo people at SOB and I've never heard anyone say something like that. I've heard people agree that it's a bumpy or rough ride, but not calling it names. ;)

Yeah, that is kind of funny. I wasn't trying to knock you or anything about listening to them. That's not so good if they are that down on the jobs/rides. That could get some ugly rumors started... I suppose I could see Steel Venom going, however I bet it will either be that or a neat coat of paint/sign/and some rehab over the off season.

The attendance may have gone down since removing the wildlife side, but so has the cost of running it. I miss it as well, but I understand why it is gone and know GL will do that side up right.

Like I said earlier, I seriously expect to see an expanded kids area, maybe camp snoopy (?), a new log flume (?) and a wild mouse (?) in the upcoming years on that side of the park. I also think we will see expanded picnic areas, something like Kennywood has where families and corporations can rent/use.

midwave, what food was over on the wildlife side that was so good? I dont recall anything different compared to the rides side.

I had actually never been to Geauga Lake, or any of its incarnations prior to this spring (mid-May), so I can not say that I do/not miss SFWoA. I have been to Cedar Point and Michigan’s Adventure, which to me are two extremely different types of parks, but which gave me an idea of what to expect from Cedar Fair parks (i.e. cleanliness, polite staff, well maintained rides – both staff wise and mechanically, etc). So basically I knew what Cedar Fair parks usually offered going into this visit. I also knew though too that the sale of SFWoA had just taken place and that Cedar Fair had little time to get the park ready for opening day.

There were quite a few rides down when we were there (Beaver Land, Raging Wolf Bobs, Big Dipper, and some of the smaller rides). One big problem we had there was on X-flight, where a staffer (line mgt) down below where the line was would send a certain amount of people up at a time to the station. This seemd an impressive line management system at first, until it seemed we were standing in line for quite some time without moving and began getting quite frustrated. After a while, we started watching the trains leaving the station and they were half empty. That's just wrong. We talked to the line management person and explained the problem, and she basically ignored us. And then…some op in the station yelled down to her to let people up, and she let everyone up to the station. Great line management, huh? I rode X-flight twice and the first time the op who helped me with my restraints was great and made it nice and tight for me (I’m still hesitant on flying coasters). But the second time in the station, the next ride op just tugged on it, and would have let us go, until I made a stink that I needed to have mine actually fit me, and worked to it myself (sorry to hold the line up folks, but the ride would be shut down if I were to fall out of it :( These were my only negative ride issues though (aside from those not in operation).

The food and beverage places were not that crowded but the staff did take an exceptionally long time getting any food out to the peeps, so the lines were increasing rapidly. This seemed like a typical new staff and new season problem though, and not necessarily a SF versus CF issue.

My big problems with the visit was that there were so many rides down, I resented the fact that I could not use a CP or SF season pass, and the worst had to be that the restrooms were impossible to find. They were unmarked and almost hidden.

My first and only trip to Geauga Lake did not turn me off to it, although I was somewhat disappointed. The park really lacked any personality that could be attributed to either a typical SF or CF park. It just seemed the park and the staff were not ready and were pretty disorganized (which of course I do not fault them for it due to the time – or lack thereof – they had to prepare it for the visitors). I have no ill feelings, and am actually preparing to go back to GL next season, but no way would I go this season again. I’ll wait until I can use my season pass, and know that every part of the park has been brought up to CF standards. *** Edited 7/30/2004 6:43:35 PM UTC by ltlbat***

Swampwater Jack's was my favorite, and their specialty was Beef & Chicken Fajita's and Chicken Fajita Salads w/guacomole (my favorite!)

Shorty Pete's Smokehouse BBQ served Smoked Chicken & Ribs as their specialty, plus smoked Turkey legs...the smoked Turkey legs have returned to the park where the Enterprise ride was, but the Smoked BBQ Ribs & Chicken were not brought back :(

Mandarin Buffet was an all-you-can-eat Chinese buffet cuisine..although pricey, it was well worth the cost...the times we went there, I never had to eat again the rest of the day...mmm..mmm..good!

I think the Busch, Disney, and Universal parks have done pretty well for themselves with a lot of non-coaster/big ride attractions at each park that wouldn't get people motion sick. Maybe that's a reason why they're some of the most-visited parks in the World.

Yeah, and all three are mostly theme parks whereas CP, GL/SFWOA are amusement parks. Magic Kingdom has its Dumbo ride for kids and families and CP has MF for teens/adults. Two different types of parks, but they still achieve the ultimate goal of providing entertainment and an escape for guests.

SFWoA was a regional theme park, GL was a regional amusement park as is marketed that way once again
I don't miss SFWoA. The park really didn't seem that clean. Villain, and Batman we're never running all the trains they could. Once and a while, those two coasters would only have one train going, and that goes for X-Flight too. I wouldn't want to get on the coasters because of the lines, and the one train operation. Now with Cedar Fair in town, I don't care about lines since multiple trains are running on the coasters. I also think Cedar Fair will give Geauga Lake a coaster quicker than Six Flags would've ever given it to us. I do miss the theming though, especially Bugs, and his friends. When I ride Dominator, it's still weird not hearing the Batman music in the house. Same with Superman; not seeing the big "S" above the entry to the queue line. I just keep telling myself that we're better off, and it's going to be for the best.
