anyone been at a park during a tornado warning

Managment 1: Tornado!?!?! What do we do?
Managment 2: EVACUATE THE PARK!
Managment 1: Are you sure thats a good idea? The radio warnings say to never try to outrun a tornado!
Managment 2: So what? They arn't your mommy and daddy, are they? Who cares if they die?

Get my drift? I highly doubt any park would evacuate in a tornado. That is like if your home, instead of going to the basement, you go in your car and try to outrun the twister. Also, explain how you can evacute 10K+ people in less than 3 minutes (thats probably more warning time that usual for a tornado!)

"The tornado at Adventureland was named the tornado because a tornado destroyed the ride that use to take up the spot where the coaster is."

Do you know what ride the tornado destoyed?

Thanks again Coasterdude. It was a good thing that you did take shelter. One spout in particular didn't break up when it hit shallow water. The spout "skipped" over the point and was rather low. I remember looking for my line length sign after the spouts subsided and finding it over by Fascination.

That water was also the coldest water I have ever felt. My supervisor and I got hit with what felt like buckets of water after we got the trains in the transfer and safety brakes unloaded. We were taking the portable platform back when he just looked at me and said, "Oh damn!" Then the rain hit us. Needless to say, a trip to wardrobe was called for!
Krazy
I believe there is an unofficial webpage for adventureland that talks about it I will get back to you on that.
I was at SF Ohio last year durng a tornado warning. I was just gotten into theparking lot and hail started to fly. When it stoped we entered the park. My friend and didn't know that there was a tornado warning untill we came after our 1 drive back. Our parents werre worried. The tornado sirens were not working. The GP didn't know.
Back when Rolling Thunder was still standing at SFGAM, one year before the Viper, they shut down the rides because of a tornado warning, i don't think one actually hit the area, but thats the closest i got to a tornado at a theme park.

The official page talks about it at the link above. It does not say much but that the tornado in question, the actual, one destroyed part of the park and delayed the opening of the park. I do believe that the park was suppost to open with a wooden coaster in 74/75. But the park did not get a wood coaster until 78 the Ride Tornado.

I'm really not sure the exact date was. We might have been there the same day.
We had 2 water spouts when we went to cedar point. We were on the mean streak in 96 or 97 and it was preety dark and you can see these 2 twin tornados heading torwards the other islands
I work at Carowinds, and what I did during a tornado warning was I got people of of the Hurler, and we went into a bathroom nearby. Just a warning, but scared the $hit outta me! Trying to talk to other park employees with a walkie-talkie in a bathroom with 15 other people is scary!

Mindbender...Can you hear the Riddler chuckling?
I went to Adventurland a couple times and it does seem like everytime you go there is a tornado watch or it rains. They kicked me out of the line for the Space Shot because of rain.
To all of you who said you heard the rumor that the Power Tower at Cedar Point was hit by lightining, it's not a rumor. Power Tower, and Space Spiral, like all tall structures, are hit by lightining regularly. I don't think any have been while operating, but I do know that it's not a rumor.

(Who will be at Cedar Point August 9th. E-mail me if you're gonna be there.)
One time at SFNE last spring, we were about to ride Scream, when a ride atttendant stopped me at the gate and said,"This ride is closed due to the tornado warning". Of course, I was clueless because at that time, the weather was fine. But of course, within the next 10 minutes the sky got black and they announced for people to take cover in restraurants and small buildings. We hid in the exit for Blizzard River, which is a small brick house. We thought they wouldnt let do that at first, but even the ride attendants did that. But not tornado came.

We're pretty lucky here in New Jersey, tornado-wise. But with the weather getting crazier over the years, we've gotten some "mild" tornadoes. If anyone from SFGAdv is reading this...what is the official Plan, just in case we ever got a serious one? Evacuation would definitely not work - it would be a serious disaster because people can't even leave the park on a good day at closing time without insanity! Thanks.

I've never been to an amusement park during a tornado, but I was at the beach last year when we had like 5 waterspouts. Was anyone at CP last year when the waterspouts were on lake erie, or were these one just on the east side of teh lake.
By the way, me and my stupid friends ran into the water just so we could say"I went swimming during a Waterspout!Stupid huh?

We stayed at Radisson and took the boat. A tornado was reported to be 3 miles away. It was raining like mad. All the lights went off, the whole park had no power.
