Anybody Read the "Great Brain" series?

When I was a kid, I read a book that was part of a series called, "The Great Brain" or something like that. The series centered around a kid growing up in Utah in the late 1800's. The reason I mention it was because in one chapter, he built a roller coaster from the top of his barn and charged kids a penny to ride. He made all kinds of money, but lost it all when the coaster flew off the track and broke a kid's legs. These were the days before upstop wheels of course. I guess the brain didn't have insurance.

ahhh yes. I remember reading those in 4th grade, and they were very good. I must not have read the coaster one though.

"These were the days before upstop wheels of course." lol!

I read The Great Brain to my seventh grade students every year. They love that book. I'll have to find the book with the coaster in it. It's not in the first three books.
I read those books often as a child, and actually I still think they are good to read, even as an adult! The story with the Chute the Chute is in "The Great Brain Does It Again" by John D. Fitzgerald, if anyone is interested.

Wow! I used to love those books. I read each one so many times that I'm embarassed to admit I don't know which on has the coaster in it.

Can you still buy them? I'd love to get them for my daughter in a few years.

That's right. It was a Shoot the Chute and wasn't really attached to the track.

Yup, a very fun read. I'd recommend the series to anyone with kids here. Especially, "The Great Brain Does it Again". Thanks Mrs. Freeze!
