I was wondering about the opening time of Cedar Point. The day I am going the opening time is 10 am, but the gates open at 9. I was wondering if the rides open before 10 or is it worth waiting an hour for rides becuase not everyone in my party is patient and willing to wait around. Does anyone have any other tips for Cedar Point? I am going August 7th and 8th which are a Monday and Tuesday. Does anyone know what the crowds are like around then.
Gates open at 9, and the masses run for the MF queue. Rides begin at 10 sharp. If you're saving MF for later in the day, you can walk in at 9:50 and get on anything else (except for Raptor, which is smack dab in the middle of the Midway, very near the main gate) with very little wait. As for MF, we had good luck eating an early dinner around 4:30 and getting in the queue around 5:00, as other guests were getting hungry. Tuesday is a good bet for lighter crowds.
Pretty much whatever day you go, there is gonna be crowds. Tips: DON'T do Raptor first. Use the ticket system on MF. Try to get like the last two shifts for the Force. Mean streak is no wait in the morning. I usually do this: Mean Streak, tickets, Magnum, Power Tower, Mantis, by then it is about time to do MF, then Raptor. Then you can chill out because hit all of the big ones. I like doing Power Tower twice also the same for Magnum. Try to get 3 tickets for the force. If oyu're lucky you can get on three times (only if all of oyur tickets are for the same time, if not you can probably guarantee three rides). Just hope it doesn't rain for your ticket time!!

DOWN WITH TRIM BRAKES!
Millennium Force opens as soon as they can get it open as a matter of policy. There are some other tips on the strategy section on http://www.guidetothepoint.com.

Get to CP at least an hour before the gates open. Run to Millennium Force. We did that one day and got on the one of the first runs of the day. It's a long run so maybe a jog would be best. I got tired at the far skyride enterance. After MF we hit Mean Streak with a walk on.

Good one Coasterpunk.....
We went on a monday and stood in line outside the gate at8:25 and there was already a huge line.Once those gates went up...look out!!!
EVERYONE RAN FOR MILLENNIUM FORCE.....no jogging..no walking..booked all the way up to the queue! One woman ran with her coffee...bounced her big **** all the way to Millennium Force!By the time us old people made it to the queue it ran all the way past frontier land.We got into the queue at 9:15 and rode it at 9:45.All I can say is ride the popular rides early and less ones later.Use your own judgement as everyone elses differs.
We went in June for 4 days. We got to the park at 10. By working from the back of the park to the front, we waited no more than an hour for anything. Our order was: Mean Streak, Gemini,(because this is our 10 yr old's favorite and pretty much a walk on,we rode 5-7 times in a row)
Magnum, Millineum Force, Raptor, Mantis, Iron Dragon. We really lucked out on MF. We would walk by every hour or so. The wait at times was 3 hrs. We were able to catch it twice with exactly an hour wait. Wildcat seemed a long wait for a short ride, but it packs alot of fun in. Corkscrew, though pretty much a yawn, was fun for our son and we would walk on whenever we walked by. A good way to start the day is Demon Drop since it is right at the entrance. Blue Streak you can hit with no wait anytime.
Get there at 9. The rides start as soon as the ops have the rides ready. MF starts very early every day.
I go there lots because of a season pass but I've noticed that wednesdays and thursdays are not busy at all. We got on MF in an hour and fifteen mintues...not to mention front car which was extreme. Everything else was under an hour..the Raptor was about 20 minutes after dinner.
I got to CP at 8:30 on July 11th, and I was able to get in a very short line, 3rd person from the gate. Yes, it's a sprint to MF, but it was worth it...I was on the 8th train out, and was off MF by 9:20. I walked around the Frontier Trail and then made my way over to Magnum, and got on that by 10:03. So I hit MF and Magnum by the time the 10AM ride starting officially occurred.

Interesting. When I was there, MF was down for maintenance until right around 10 AM. To my knowledge, none of the rides were operating prior to 10 that day. I guess I was a touch unlucky.
I was there 3 days in a row (stayed at Breakers) and ran to MF at 9 a.m. and all three days, the Force started up at 9:30, so by 10 a.m. I rode the Force and Power Tower, and was on my way to Magnum. That is the ONLY way to do it. BTW, I was there on June 6,7,8 (Tue-Thur).

My son and I were there last Monday and Tuesday (7/24 & 7/25). We got there Monday @ 9:30ish, walked back to MF, then walked to the end of the line near the petting zoo area. It was running at that time, but was the only coaster running that I saw. Even though the line was back to there we rode it in a little over an hour. We also went back when the Laser and Firework show ended. They don't close the queue down until 11:00pm, and they run the MF until it clears the queue.
We got one night ride in the front row! Intense! Left the park at about midnight.
We followed it up on Tuesday with the same pattern, although we were a little later and ended up getting the TTR for the first (11:00 to 12:00) slot. At 10:40 they were telling us to go ride other rides, but Mantis had an easy 1 hour line in it, so we just stood there until they let us in the queue at 10:45. After we rode it, we got another TTR, but ended up not using it since we went to the water park for part of the afternoon. Caught another night ride, by getting in the queue before the laser show.
Your best bet to be one of the first people in line for MF is this. Instead of going in the main entrance to the park, use the marina entrance. This is right up the causeway and lets you in the park by the IMAX theater. It opens at 9, like the main entrance, but it is considerably closer to MF than the main entrance, and if you use it you can be one of the first people in line for MF. You will have to walk to the entrance from the parking lot (either that, or have a MF-nonrider drop you off in a car), so plan on allowing enough time to be let in at 9. I don't know if they sell tickets there or not. You may have to purchase your ticket at the main gate, and then go over to the marina entrance, but I'm not sure of that. I would think they would sell tickets at every entrance into the park. If you do this, and MF opens early, you should be off it before or around 10, when all the other rides open. After you hit MF, if you hit it early, you should be able to hit Mantis, Power Tower, Magnum, Gemini, and Mean Streak (in that order), all with minimum waits. Hit Raptor around 3:00, when the mass of crowds are at the other end of the park. Don't hit Blue Streak early in the morning, because it will have a wait. It will be a near walk-on at night. Good luck!
I was at the Point recently and I can tell you this, the masses run to the MF right at 9:00, however if you to the MF a little later then this don't be discouraged. The line my look incredibly long, and I mean incredibly long, but you move through it very fast, and once you're actually in the queue line it only takes about a hour and thirty minutes before you ride.
When I was their this past weekend, it rained and rained and rained and rained and rained. If this happens to you DO NOT LEAVE, no matter how long the rides are down. We got the the park at about 9:30 and was off the MF by 11:15, not bad. At about 2:00 it started raining, and did not stop until about 5:00. So they started the rides up again but then it strated raining and they had to close the rides again. Then the rides didn't reopen until about 7:30. By this time everyone had left and we got to ride anything we wanted with very little wait. 30 minutes for the Raptor, 50 minutes for MF and only 10 for Magnum.
So my advise is DON'T leave until the park is closed.
Same here... I ran to MF at 9am, it started running at 9:25, and I had the ride of my life at 9:40. At 9pm, I checked with the employee at the queue entrance, to make sure they would keep the queue open until 10 (they said yes). I got in line at 9:55 and rode at 11:30.
So, of the 12 hours (10-10 when I went in June), MF consumed only 5 minutes.
Also, stay at the Hotel Breakers if you can. We didn't move the jeep from the time we arrived Wed afternoon until we left Fri after lunch. (2200 miles in 8 days... this was nice!) My wife and kids would take a break from the park at the beach and pool, and did not have to wait for my MF rides.
Have a great trip!
