I'm going to a gig at the Melon Arena in Pitts next month. Are there any parks very close to Pitts North only 50 miles or nearer... on route to Niagria

Either way make sure its on a coaster
Although it's not on the way to Niagra, you should not miss Kennywood if you are going to be in the Pittsburgh area.
How about Canada's Wonderland?
Already going there

Pittsburgh:

Kennywood is about 20 minutes from the Mellon Arena. There are tons of good reviews on this park all throughout this site.

Enroute to Niagara:

Conneaut Lake Park (Conneaut Lake exit off I-79, south of Erie, near Meadville)

Waldameer Park in Erie at the entrance to Presque Isle.

Niagara Falls (Canadian Side):

Marineland

Six Flags Darien Lake wouldn't be too far out of the way between the two either (depending on how you define "too far").

yes, go to CLP! It has a great John Miller classic woody. And admission is free! They have tickets, or ride all day pass for 12.50! Great fries, don't forget SFWoA is 2 hours from Pitt and Cedar Point is 4 hours, don't miss SFDL, great hyper. it's only 30 minutes from the airport.

MarineLand in Canada, near Niagra Falls, don't miss it, they've got the Dragons Mountain, an awesome terrain looper!

Darien Lake (with the awesome Superman:Ride of Steel) is just about right on the way. It's on State Route 77 just off I-90 (the NY Thruway), less than 20 minutes east of the Buffalo interchanges.
Kennywood. I might be stopping there on a road trip to Virginia, anyway, i was wondering is it a great park that is really worth it? It looks pretty good, what are the rides like and is it worth a slight detour?

Since Kennywood is my homepark, I am a little biased . . .

But nevertheless, you should definitely try to stop by. The Phantom's Revenge is a world-class hyper, and the Thunderbolt, Racer, and Jack Rabbit are all classic woodies. The indoor Exterminator is a fun ride as well. There are many, many great reviews of Kennywood and its coasters on this site. Check them out and decide for yourself.
Darien Lake is a good park, but the S:ROS there isn't all that hot. The best S:ROS is at SFNE.

Like Phantom Catcher, Kennywood's my homepark, so I'm certainly biased. But!

I honestly don't know how anyone could possibly skip Kennywood if they're in the Pittsburgh area and have some free time. Of all the parks I've been to, which isn't some ungodly number, sure, it's either my favorite or one of the favorites. The food, the atmosphere, the coasters both classic and new-age, the great old flat rides, the scenery and gardens... The list goes on and on.

It's eight miles from the Golden Triangle, so there's no reason not to hit it. ;)

I agree with Lynch. I just went to Kennywood a couple of weeks ago after about a 14 year hiatus, and was blown away. It's a beautiful park with great rides, and an exceptional value. *** This post was edited by chris on 6/20/2001. ***
Ok the best S:ROS may be at SFNE (I haven't ridden it yet) but I think telling someone the other one isn't too hot is wrong. A coaster enthusiast should ride every coaster and judge for themselves. Your allowed your opinion but just remember that Darien Lakes S:ROS put Intamin back on the map in the world of coaster building. Ok so I have a mirror clone of the ride at my park SFA, but after 200+ rides easily I still love my S:ROS.
