Any news on Taz's Texas Tornado??

Hi there,

I'm just wondering if anyone has any news on Taz's Texas Tornado. It was closed for much of 2001, and I think it would be a real shame if this amazing (looking) ride were left to rot. Is Six Flags planing on fixing it, or selling it, or moving it?

Well for one thing, it's just called "Texas Tornado" now. IMHO they should give it back to Germany so that they can use it at their fairs.
But don't the fairs have rides like the Olympic Looper & such, I think the States deserve Thriller. There's not another AScoaster with such a reputation over here, you know?
It will return soon.
Fill us in better than that Agent. You always seem to have the inside info. Don't hold out if you know something. ;)

Uh-Oh Agent Johnson, What are you saying?
All he's saying is that it's fairly common knowledge that Thriller is having it's restraints modified yet again and should open decently early this year...the ride *is* SFAW's premiere attraction, having it closed for long is obviously not in the park's best interest.

I hope it opens sometime. Even though I live in Ohio I'd still like to try to get down to SFAW to ride it and go through the 6.7 G's.

The ride was closed because it got new trains in 2001 and there was some problem with it. Since all it needs is trains hopefully SFAW will do something about that so they can open it back up.

AJ isn't letting the proverbial kitty out of the bag on this one guys, this "news" has been around for a little while. And remember the JP credo: "those who know, don't tell..." (TM)
The "problem" last year wasn't the trains themselves, it was the restraints. The ride was supposedly open for a grand total of about 2 hours as people were coming back to the station with *bloody ears* and I am *not* making this up. Obviously a fix was necessary though I'm not sure why it's taken them so long. I also have yet to get on the ride and I've been delaying a trip to TX for this to open as I think it'll be one of the big highlights of the trip, all hail Anton :-)

How many times did people say that "they should just put regular shoulder bars on it instead of those accordion things"? I think I read that a hundred times on rec.roller-coaster. In November of 2000, I saw one of the retrofitted trains and I said at the time that they were crazy, and they were going to hurt people.

I knew I was right. I had no idea that I would be proven right before the end of the first operating day. :(

I wonder how they are going to fix it.....
