Any news for California in 2002?

Has anybody heard anything on any parks in California? I figured this is easier than asking about each individual park. And I don't mean "I heard SFMM is going to get a 400' wooden looper with 14 inversions" I means stuff that will actually happen. ;)

Well, we know Knott's will be getting an Intamin launched coaster...

As for SFMM - They are still trying to get X open this year.  However, there is a chance it will not open till 2002.

why would sfmm get 400' wooden looper coaster with 14 inversions? how fast would it go? is it going to be a super hyper coaster?
Fun boy, they got the stats WAY rong! It's actually 22 inversions from a height of 525ft! Get it rite!  ;)

Hmm....I've heard, though it was from the Lemon Chill guy (tm) that Collussus will be retracked for 2002, though i doubt that. I've also overheard something about Rapids Camp Crossing, maybe a new resaurant, or a new trashcan, who knows.

Drive to theme parks for the food, stay for the coasters!! Knott's Fried Chicken
If they continue to delay X, they can advertise it as NEW FOR 2002, X! then NEW FOR 2003, X! Quick, get your season passes today for 2002's NEW ride! :(

I am actually beginning to give up on X, and am eagerly awaiting Knott's OFFICIAL announcement of their new ride. With GhostRider and another New steel coaster, KBF will finally be a worthy destination for a day. As it is, I go after 4pm for the discount and reride GhostRider as many times as possible. Only one ride on each other coaster, and Supreme Scream. Perilous Plunge is fun, but too wet. Must use plastic poncho. blah blah blah blah.

SFMW might get a flying coaster next year even though PGA has one.  Look at this comparison of SFWoA and SFMWs new coaster over the last few years:
SFWoA:
2000:Kiddy, wooden, impulse, floorless
2001-Flying
2002-?
SFMW:
1999:Kiddy, wooden
2000:Floorless
2001:Impulse
2002:Flying???

Interesting...

Hm...good point, RagingBull217. It might be possible because I don't believe in the "a park X miles away can't get the same attraction". But I don't think SFMW will get a flying. I think they'll want to take advantage of the new 200+ feet height limit they receive in 2002. :)

Hey, I have to commute on the Bay Bridge every weekday! Let's try to calm my nerves... Anyways, I know that PGA already announced the Huss Giant Delerium, and a new movie for the simulator (great)... I think SFMW will work more on fixing up what they have, hopefully they can expand their park by purchasing the fairgrounds nearby or something, since they are a little pressed for space. I doubt they will get a new coaster, I wouldn't be suprised if they started marketing V2 as a modified ride if they get the LIM's on the rear tower to work again. It was only working for a few weeks before they gave up on it.

As for Bonfante Gardens, when I last heard they were going to get a Setpoint Suspended Coaster, but then they had funding problems... I'm not sure what will happen for them next season, but if they get their act together they could easily compete in the Northern Cali. market, since they have lots of what most California Theme Parks are lacking, which is land.

The only other Calif. theme park with an abundance of land is SFMM. If they actually started using more of what they own, they could be the greatest park ever. Of course as of now there is no real transport rides like trains and monorails except for that tram that runs up and down the mountain(or the old skyride). Almost like they don't care about trying to make their park nice, they just like cramming in more coasters. They were orignally competing against Disneyland and KBF, so they concentrated on what those parks lacked. I think they should try to make their park more of a traditional theme park, by adding a train to run the perimeter and make some decent flat rides, since these would be easy ways to reduce the line lengths. And c'mon, they could at least have one dark ride! Just one, that's all I ask! In my mind SFMM is the most unbalanced theme park, you don't really want to hang out there, you just want to go on the coasters.
