Any members of the media here?

I just wanted someone with whom to share my joy of being in the media. I work for a group of suburban newspapers in Columbus, and although the only park in our coverage area is Wyandot Lake, we get press releases, posters and other freebies from PKI and CP and other parks all the time.

Since we don't cover those parks, and since everyone knows I'm a coaster enthusiast, it all gets forwarded to me. I have a dozen glossies and 2 posters of MF, lots and lots of press and pics of SoB, Face/Off and Drop Zone, plus I got invited to the Face/Off, Drop Zone, SoB and MF and the Six Flags Ohio press days. I even got a wooden coaster set (like to set your glass on) when Gwazi at BGT opened, and a cheap necklace for the mass wedding they had on Drop Zone.

In case there are some here who have never been to a press day, it is great. There's a lot of waiting involved, but then you usually get to ride the new coaster dozens of times without getting off, and there's almost always free food!

On top of all that, I get to write columns about whatever I want every few weeks, and of course coasters have been my topic on occasion. So I get to share my love of coasters with a circulation area of 220,000!

Well, anyone else? :) *** This post was edited by Den on 3/7/2001. ***

Well, I'm glad to say that most parks finally consider CoasterBuzz legitimate "real" media. I get all of the PR's and goodies.

Mind you, I've always been in some form of media, from radio to television to newspaper to the Net. Working any kind of media is fun, and it's always nice to here when people appreciate your work.

yes...

....technically, no.

SFDL (darien lake) put me on their special SFDL mailing list though, for having my website.... which was very nice of them so I can get news before everyone else does :)

So I guess I can be considered part of the media?

Hey Den, who do you work for? Me, I am at the Dispatch. I work in the art Dept. for advertising.
I was in the paper for going to the SoB press day. I was the youngest at age 12.

Hey Den...are you in NNCO? I'm a photographer for the Chillicothe Gazette.

Also, john peck, do you know John Catlett?
John, I work at Suburban News Publications, which has 21 weekly papers. We're in direct competition with the Dispatch's own ThisWeek papers.

Tyler, I'm not sure what NNCO is, so I guess I'm not in it. :)

Ah yes! SNP! They are really growing, though!
Do you get one of our papers? I haven't written a coaster column since the deaths at PGA and PKD two years ago.

So, do you work downtown? Someone told me the Dispatch never hires editors or writers from weekly papers...you have to have some daily experience. Is that true?
2 years! I was wondering why I never saw a coaster column. Way before my Columbus days.

(I prefer SNP over "This Week", just don't care for a paper that devotes over half its pages to high school sports!)
Millrace, not to be boastful, but everyone knows SNP is better than ThisWeek, even ThisWeek employees. In fact, the whole venture loses money for the Dispatch, so I hear. Just notice how many weeks they use 6-column-wide pictures on page one and have full-open pages (no advertising). Anyway, thanks for reading. :)

Den, Sorry to take so long, I really have no idea of the requirements for the old Dispatch. I know they do turn away a lot of people.

We recently went from free insurance to having to pay for it now, which is normal in todays workplace, so many people will be getting discusted (for no real reason and quitting) Guess I should like my job instead of complaining about it all the time, eh?

John, we complain all the time here...especially when we realize that ThisWeek writers and editors get paid far more for doing far worse work. I can't count how many people we've lost to them...
