CoasterBuzz Party People: Another poll has surfaced that sensationalizes the possibility that thrill rides might hurt you. Let's set it right, shall we?

It has everything to do with it.  Liberals like to protect people from themselves too much.
Sorry for the political rant.  We now return to our normally scheduled programming.

I have little respect for any opinion that first groups and labels people, then states generalizations about them.

But then, people who do that tend to vote for the dog catcher based on their political party instead of their actual ability to catch dogs.

This article seems to repeat almost every falsehood about coasters and their hazards.  It even goes so far as to report on another news report.

By the way, does anyone know what the peak G's are for the shuttle?

How on Earth are these folks supposed to fill in all the facts when what they really want is a 30-second soundbite that'll hook viewers...besides facts are RARELY as interesting as uneducated rants, especially about something complex.  If they really wanted to EDUCATE, they'd be on PBS for cryin' out loud.

Damned liberal, conservative, Democrat, Republican, tax-and-spend, government off-my-back, libertarian rule-mongers...LMAO...

Oh we must love the media, for they know not what they write. I am pretty sure they had to run off and ask 6 or 7 doctors to get the opinion they wanted. I wish the media would get there heads out of there ........ and actually report some worth while information. I guess there it isn't enough that they can turn a murderer into a hero. So they must attack something that is good, and wholesome, and fun for the whole family (once some of them get over the inital fear of that first drop). The media is too liberal, I do not mean to offend anyone with that remark. This has nothing to do with politicial parties. The media is known to twist the truth, to bend the law to the point of breaking, they give the story the spin they want and manage to scare the public. In order to make a few extra bucks off of commericals. I wonder what happened to the media and why it is almost more believeable to read the "Weekly World News" than the "Wall Street Journal" ?
These reports are so vague that finally I'm convinced that they're released to do nothing more than alarm people who *don't* ride coasters. Those are obviously the wrong people to ask, heck my mom would tell you coasters are too tall and extreme just from seeing pictures of Viper, she's never actually been on a coaster in her life

. To quote some poor woman who says she had physical problems resulting from a coaster, without any medical history revealed, is downright irresponsible. No facts, just fear. Very troubling...

Better yet, how many G's does a fighter pilot encounter?  And for what extended period of time.  Fact remains that I have a better chance of winning this Saturday's Powerball than I do of being seriously injured or killed on an amusement park ride.

I don't think it's generalizing people, but generalizing an ideology.

Is it the roar of Kumba or the kumba of Roar? Discuss!
I thought fighter pilots and astronauts wear G-suits that inflate to help them counter the G's. And the training that they go though to become a fighter pilot or astronaut not every day joe can be one it takes a very fit person to become one. I believe coasters are safe but dont compare someone that wears protection for G's against some one that is a regular joe wearing regular clothes, G's do affect us more than them.

Mmm....all this talk about stereotyping people, but everyone's stereotyping the media.

Most of the problem comes from a) your local TV station news, or b) nationally syndicated, general, vague stories from the AP, Knight Ridder, whatever.  The former's goal is ratings, period.  The latter has to write to an audience of 280,000,000 and doesn't have time to get specific.

Try your local daily or weekly newspaper and find stories written by the paper's actual employees for in-depth writing.  And then ask those reporters to write honestly about amusement parks.

You can't spell "dishonorable" without "honorable."

The whole article is rather choppy. It seems as though it's put together as Jeff said, to sensationalize.
Well I didn't stereotype anyone. My comments were directed at this article, and the trillion others that release this sort of  unsubstantiated mess. Pure crap, and that's putting it lightly. The problem is, the casual reader, unaware of actual statistics might assume rollercoasters are unsafe, and that the parks are doing little to nothing to prevent it.

Ya know what ? What if "extreme" coasters ARE slightly dangerous ? WHO CARES !?!?
If you don't want to accept the risk, DON"T RIDE IT !!! How freakin' simple is that ?!?

I just wrote a very well thought out argumentative email to the editor at NewsNet5 and told him that I think he should write a piece that show's the park's view on this whole issue.  By closing argument is that it is my guess that more people are hurt or killed each year while golfing than riding roller coasters.  The number of people that are hit by lightning or hit by a ball is pretty huge and some of those people getting hit by the ball I know for sure have suffered brain injuries.  More than 15 in the last decade to be sure of.  I asked if they were going to write an article on the dangers of golf next.
