Another Carnie Ride Accident (Fatal Results This Time).

It seems to be a big year in severe ride accidents this year.

The latest is here
http://www.cnn.com/2004/US/09/19/fair.accident.ap/index.html

Basically, it looks like a ride called "Sizzler" malfunctioned at a church fair, broke apart mid-cycle and wound up killing a man & injuring two others. The victim who was killed was also the one riding the ride at the time.

Jaro Amusements of Carlisle owns the ride. I'm not sure what exactly the kind of ride it is, but they said that the cars are themed to look like 50's automobiles.

A Sizzler is a crappy Wisdom Scrambler rip-off: http://www.flatrides.com/Ride%20Index%20Pages/sizzler.html

Out of curiosity, what's crappy about it? Apart from this particular installation, I mean.
It's a cheap Wisdom ride. Wisdom just doesn't make quality rides.

Actually wouldn't it be a crappy Eli Bridge Scrambler rip-off.

And how is it crappy:

1. Lap bar design
2. Tub design which makes riders climb over the lap bar in the center of the tub with no obvious handholds to both load and unload.
3. Some shows disable the automatic lapbar release (I think California requires it), which means slow loading and unloading
4. The seats are unpadded, unlike the Scrambler
5. Finicky drive system which allows the unit poles to get out of synch with each other (meaning one pod of tubs mayspin faster/sower than the other two)

Though, I kind of like the ARM Twist(er) which is also an Eli Scrambler rip-off, but it fixes many of the problems outlined above, well except for the seat padding.
