Angry families stormed fences at Hong Kong Disneyland and tossed their children over gates Thursday after the theme park sold out for an eighth consecutive day.

I worked in parking at WDW once over the holidays when the parks would sell out by like 1030 for the day. There would be a huge traffic back up because of people screaming that they'd driven from x and like hell they were getting in. I never understood that, it's disappointing to not be able to get in, but I'd rather go to the dentist than hang out in a theme park that's so full they're not letting anyone else in. I can't imagine literally tossing my children into that. Btw 30k seems really small for a Disney theme park. I know most mid sized Six Flags parks can hold like 40 - 50k.
I'm curious what parks like Magic Kingdom, Epcot, MGM, Animal Kingdom, DCA, and Disneyland hold. I have a hunch that all four of those individually can hold more than Hong Kong Disneyland, and at each of those locations there's 1-3 more full-sized parks to disperse crowds, plus waterparks. If Hong Kong Disneyland's capacity is only 30k, it's not very surprising at all that it's selling out given its singularity in its market.
Not sure in terms of people capacity, but I did find this on Wikipedia...

"...there are only 22 entertainment items in the Hong Kong Disneyland, comparing to 44 in each of the theme park of Paris, 45 in Tokyo and Florida, and 65 in California."

HK has only Main Street, Tomorrowland, Fantasyland, and Adventureland, although expansion is planned over the next few years. So it makes sense that right now their capacity is quite a bit smaller compared to the parks in the US.

Over the next few years?

I'd kick it into HIGH gear, there's money on the table...obviously! Then again, it's Disney, so a *rapid expansion* is 5-10 years down the road, LOL...

Is Hong Kong that much of a bore for people to be clammoring to enter a theme park like that? How dismal!

It's rumored that MK can hold 2-3x that many people. Epcot the same, and about 1.5ish for Disney Studios and AK.
When I worked at the MK I was speaking to a manager about a New Year's Eve night I had attended at the MK some years back. Said manager told me that was their biggest night ever and that there were likley 90,000+ people in the park.

Even when the Disney parks "close" they still let in resort guests so it isn't a hard close.

That's amazing. Sad...
So did they give out any awards for the Kid-Put distance competition? :)
That launch system works better than an Int.rocket coaster.Hey some one had to saty it!
I'm not so sure it may work better.. how many "roll backs" were there because the parents didn't aim high enough?

Hey, the folks from the mainland are just getting used to consumerism. They'll learn to camp out soon enough.

As for the size of the park, come on! We're talking China here. It should have been twice as big is the Magic Kingdom (and It's a *small* world should have had 5 times the number of dolls.) ;)
