I have been thinking of an idea that RCT fans across the world could compete against each other. It'd go something like this...
There would be a certain park that two people, connected by the internet, would compete against each other. There would be a time limit, and the two people would try and build the best rated (excitement, lowest intensity) within that time limit.
Just a little idea that'd be some fun on the internet.
Chris
good idea,
but not sure that's possible within the game "dynamics". In fact I'm almost possitive.
maybe in the hopefull "RCT 2" though.

What's a "dynamice?"
Personally I think this would be an excellent addition to the game. In some ways, you could model it after the way Dungeon Keeper plays over networks. You build competing facilities to attract a set number of guests. Depending on what you build and how you build it, you'll keep the peeps streaming in. Of course, you might have to build things in response to what your competition does.
How cool would that be? Is Chris Sawyer listening? ;)

A 2 player mode were you build a park in compitition with each other like other stratigy games.
To build on this idea, a god way for multi player to be introduced into RCT is that you've got a pool of people that are managers of parks in the same "region". This region has a set number of guests that can choose to go to any of the parks in the region.
From the programming angle you'd have to set up a formula for guests to make their decision on a park with something like (number of rides times park ratings divided by complaints). This might not be the best formula, but you should be able to see where I'm going with that.
When I talk about pools of managers I think it'd would be insane to have any more then 10 "park managers" to every 50,000 people. Then after a park goes under a certain amount of guests and can't make ends meet for so many months, then they get axed from the game and have to start a new with a different pool.
The great thing about this would be that it would be an online game, where you don't have to be online the whole time to play. An online multiplayer game that you can save and go back to. I mean, its not like all of the park managers have to be online at the same time. So you can just work on your park, save it and then go on. You could also check in and see how other parks are doing.
The only problem I see is how one could set up the timer so it works with saved games and the base population you can work from. One way to solve this would be to set up 1 year in RCT to take as long as 1 week in the real world. Therefore, everyone is in the same year. There could be a bunch more problems with this, but its something to chew on.

You build it, I'll ride it
Great idea.
I'd add that it would be great to be able to enter these parks as a peep. Have some fun and evaluate the park. Perhaps those not participating in Park Management (observers) could enter the game as a peep.

If I'da thought about it a little longer, I'da spent more time thinking.
Something big that I think is missing from the game, which wouldn't be too hard to do and would very helpful, is the ability to speed the game up and slow it down.

I would also like to see that addition, coastergenius.
Sometimes waiting for a year to pass can seem like a lifetime.
Chris
Yeah, I know, it's really torture. :(

I think that this would be a great addition to rollercoaster tycoon. Even if there were no compition, it would be cool to build a park with someone else across the country. Like a company of people building or working on the same park, keeping it up and stuff!
That would be cool if there would be an internet game that was very involved that was very much more like real life, had track flexibility, and compitition of others online.
