Americana decision due in two weeks

Posted | Contributed by Jacob

Americana's owner, Jerry Couch, has said that a decision on whether or not to open the park in 2002 will come within the next to weeks. Couch states that the park is "ready to go," and just needs the right company to run operations. He says he will not close a deal that would lower his standards.

cvp2000, Americana wouldn't be in competition with Kings Island in the sense that you're talking about.  The goal would be to turn a profit.  That's it.  Nobody's trying to topple PKI.

I live within 5 miles of the park and yes there has been activity within the last month. The sign out front has been repainted with a red and white striped scheme. The south parking lot is currently being transformed into what appears to be a campground. Also the roads in the parking area have been repaved. So I would say there is a very good chance the park will reopen next year.

The old Fantasy Farm next door to Americana is now a campground.

There was a rumor that there was a new ride on site as well, however, that could be mistaken for the kiddie ferris wheel which was moved out front.
Sure, I move out of Cinci and Americana re-opens.  Guess I'll have to make the drive down. :)

I really hope the park opens back up. I've never hadf the privilage to go there, and I want to ride Screechin Eagle!

"It's always great for us to put the newest and the best rides into the roller coaster capitol of the world" Sandor Kernacs 11/20/01

For those few in favor of demolishing the park, let me describe a ride on the Screechin' Eagle:

You know the double dip on KW's Jack Rabbit?  And how you fly so far out of your seat that you're completely at the mercy of a thin leather strap, and you swear you're going to die?  And you don't touch the seat until you're halfway up the next hill?

Imagine that feeling on every hill from the turnaround to the station.  That's what it's like.

Combine that with a collection of flat rides that PKI and Cedar Point both should be envious of (Whip, Round-Up, Tilt-a-Whirl, Rock-o-Plane, Calypso, Scrambler, Dodge-em, Paratroopers, Flying Eagles, Sky Ride, Super Slide, Space Combat and more) and you've got what should be the pride of the Miami Valley.

You can't spell "dishonorable" without "honorable."

Den - excellent description of the Eagle.  I'm so glad to have had the chance to ride it back in '99 - it has to be one of the most overlooked coasters in the U.S.  Many people in the area have never even heard of it, much less been on it.  In terms of violent air, no ride comes close - I often refer to SE as "a wooden heart attack.".  If Americana does indeed re-open, it would be one of our first stops this year.
Small parks are what made the amusement park industry what it is today! I can honestly say if it wasn't for small parks, I would go crazy! I have a family and to drag 2 kids to a busy park is a pain...kids have no patients! So small parks like Holiday World, and Indiana Beach are perfect for me and my family. Sometimes it's not about the size or the coasters, sometimes it about feeling comfortable.
