On my way to work this morning, the price of regular ranged from 2.529 to 2.819. Obviously the cheaper places hadn't gone into full gouging mode yet. I'm sure the prices will be much different on the return trip.
RGB the prices I listed were the lunchtime rates.... want to see what they were at 7 am... 2.59 2.69 2.79 yep an 18 cent raise across the board in 5 hours got to love gouging.

Like I said we got the refineries close enough that prices are not as high as the places where they transport the fuel. *** Edited 8/31/2005 7:08:20 PM UTC by dragonoffrost***

Watch the tram car please....
It was $2.52 this morning at Speedway. On my way home, it was $3.09.

I'm glad I filled up yesterday.

I know there is a law here in Wisconsin that prohibits the price of gas going up more than once in a 24 hour period. I don't know if that law is in effect in other states as well. It really just menas get your gas today, because tomorrow it will cost a lot more.

When I heard on Sunday about gas costs possibly inflating post the hurricane, I filled up Monday night at $2.69. Now gas is it $3.09, and that was last night on the way home. Not sure what the price will be today.

"Little Bat"
On my way home today.....3.09, 3.19,3.29. What's the deal with the prices? I just don't get it. Well, actually, I kind of do, but....ugh.

I like disco.
2.48 this morning at BP. Now 3.09 same place.
nice.... 61 cent increase.... I think that might be a record breaker.

It's doubtful that every station got a new shipment of fuel today, so the only way they'd have any idea how much to raise prices is from the media.

Is it a coincidence that for two or three days now we've been hearing over and over on TV that gas prices will increase 30, 40, 50 cents because of the hurricane and that's just what they did? It's been like this all year long.

"Analysts" say the price of gas will be $2.00 by Memorial Day... sure enough it was. "Analysts" say gas will hit $2.50 by August... yep it did. Who are these analysts, and what are their credentials? I honestly think these people are pulling numbers out of their asses, and station operators are gladly hoisting them up on their signs.

Are they that astute, or is it just a self fulfilling prophecy?

While I suspect there is some gouging, it just shows how insane our demand is when just 8%-10% of our domestic supply of oil is cut off results in a 20%-25% increase in price. Granted some of that has to do with speuclation and fears resulting from the lost production, but when price hikes go that high our demand is just through the roof.
3.09 cheap stuff here in cincy. Was 2.49.

Flying Scooter, If this was the 80's we would just all fuel up out of that cleveland river up there that burned.

^LOL... that is true, Charles.

A Brief Lesson In American Hegemony/Hubris and Pork Rinds as We Trace The Sudden and Inexplicable Disappearance of the American Amusement Park Customer. . .

How do you take those fun, vainglorious, carefree days away from the American people, and REALLY make them suffer?

Take away their financial ability to go to an amusement park by making gas so expensive that they'll never leave home again!!!

Just like the oil being shipped out of Iraq and taken by tankers for sale on the European Market (not American, European), the oil barons decided that they're going to need a boost in sales to help defray the enormous cleanup costs of this catastrophic hurricane in the South. You think $3.09 is bad? Stay tuned, buddy. We're just getting started.

Remember when the American people were told how the "war on terror" had to be switched from Afghanistan to Iraq, because the "terrorists" had suddenly gone there? Remember when the American people were told that the Iraqi Oil Wells would be used to pay for that war and that country's "reconstruction." Does anyone remember the furtive search for the so-called Weapons Of Mass Destruction? Does anyone realize that Saddam Hussein was our ally and best friend in the Middle East until he invaded Kuwait?

This is the beginning of the last act of the play, entitled NEOCONNED. Anyone who hasn't seen this coming deserves whatever fresh hell awaits. . .

The hurricane devastation plays nicely into the hands of the Gang of Oil Barons in DC. They are laughing all the way to the bank, and it's only just beginning. . .The Cracker Barrel Bunch is about to have their heads handed to them on a silver platter. And the answers were always there, plainly in evidence for everyone to see. . .

Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!

Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!

Make way for the sheeple!! They're going to be doing a lot of baaaaaaaaaaaaaaa-ing this fall on the way to the gas pumps!!!

But just wait until they get a load of what's coming in September. . .If we endure another terrorist attack at this time, our economy is down for 6 months to a year. . .But, remember: we're fighting them over there so we don't have to fight them there, or something like that.

How do you think $5 gas by December 1 is going to go over with the American People? Where in that equation does the weekend trip to Hershey or Six Flags or Knoebel's fit in?

Answer: It doesn't.

No disposable income equates zero recreation budget which ultimately leads to No Amusement For The American People. . .

But, hey, we can all stay on our ranches, clearing brush!!!

Clearing brush is good for the country. It keeps the evil-doers at bay. . .

Ride 'em, cowboy!!!!

You've been NEOCONNED!!!!!

Wooooooooooooooooooooo Hooooooooooooooooo!!!

Six Flags Over Texas--Yeah, buddy!!!!

Okay...

I'm not touching it today, I had my fun yesterday.

EDIT:

Hey RatherGoodBear,

I decided to take it upon myself and become an analyst for oil prices. According to my miscalculations the price of gas is going to take a sharp drop due to the recent development of hamster powered cars!

I talked to a big evil corporate oil giant and he told me that they won't be able to compete with this new revolutionary technology.

Hamster powered car, eh?
I just knew Yugo's would make a comeback!

All I have to say is that i'm not driving a hybrid and I DON'T intend on ever doing so.

I like sports cars and SUVs and so do a lot of other people in this country. They don't get good gas mileage but who cares! They're a lot more fun to drive than those ridiculous hybrids. Cars aren't just things to get from point A to point B to some people, including me. The prices will come back down again, thought probably not anytime soon because of Katrina.

Barry, don't even try to pull that BS. We are in Iraq to establish order and to root out terrorists. Not to mention that we removed one of the most brutal dictators the world has ever seen! We are not in Iraq purely because of oil. Sure, it might have had a little to do with the decision to invade but that was not the biggest factor so don't even think about mentioning that. Go somewhere else with your conspiracy theories. *** Edited 8/31/2005 8:47:53 PM UTC by Blink3020***

Don't Fight It, Ride It, RAGING BULL!!!!!!- Six Flags Great America

Blink--at 19, you're the perfect fodder for the gristmill.

Why aren't you in Iraq? Serving your country? Helping to drive those gas prices. . .down??!!!

You just keep driving those SUV's and sports cars.

Atta boy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

VRROOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMM!

VRRROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMM!!!

P.S. Who's blaming Bush???

Personally, I like Rob's hamster-powered car idea;that's pretty cool. . .

I look forward to driving my gas AND oil guzzling RX-8 to Holiday World on October 1st.
The new guy will fit right in... He got the secret handshake right from the start! :-)

After doing some quick research I see that we were supposed to be prepared for this anyways.

In Back to the Future II, Marty sees the Texaco gas station in the world of 2015 and the price of regular was $8.37 a gallon. You may laugh now, but that doesn't sound too far off.

I just never thought I would ever pay more that $25 to fill my little Civic when I signed that dotted line two years ago. My wife on the other hand will now be paying $50 to fill her Taurus.

Crazyness.

I should add while we are complaining about gas being so expensive I bet those investors in oil are rolling in the dough! They took a risk and are now reaping the benefits, which is true with any risk, you COULD win or lose and in this case they are winning. If you think being a wussy and coasting along will bring you big bucks from nothing, you've got another thing coming.

Are than any railroad tracks near Holiday World or Knoebels? I am considering "hopping" a train as a stowaway. ;-) Anyone wanna join me?

Rob, the Flex Capacitor idea doesn't seem too far-fetched now. Hell, plutonium is probably cheaper than gas right now. ;-)
