Alpine Bobsled at Great Escape to close for good on Labor Day

According to the park's Twitter, um sorry, "X" account, Alpine Bobsled will close for good on September 4th. I rode it when it was at Great America back in the 90's. Simple but fun Intamin bobsled coaster and a dying breed.

Doesn't it have to be open to be able to close ?

I've only been to that park once, in August 2006.

I remember Alpine Bobsled being solid enough, though the mid course brakes were pretty nasty.
