iThe four other Scooby rides I've seen look extraordinary and they have great capacity as well,/i
The capacity numbers that Sally has on its site are well off realistic sums. I rode the Carowinds attraction -- a 4-seater -- and it was running closer to 400 per hour, if that, than the 800 listed on the site.
And having been on the 2-seater Sally dark ride (Ghost Hunt) at Lake Compounce, you're talking slooow queue crawl.
The problem is that there is plenty of downtime in trying to fill up the car with four guests every time out. If the attendants have two coming on and call for a party of two, and those two happen to be ten deep in the line, it would have been more efficient to just let the vehicle run at two than the time spent in adding the two new guests.
That said, the Sally shoot-em-ups are a whole lot of fun. Nothing fancy. Don't expect much in terms of theming, accuracy or focus (since you have four beams pointing away at the same target sometimes and it's hard to make out which one is yours). But it's definitely something refreshing from the typical park fare.
If I were PKI I'd go with the more high volume Buzz Lightyear approach. Just rip out every other doombuggy, give them the ability to spin, and load the lasers onto the buggy themselves. That's if they want to do this at all.
But closing the ride this early into the peak summer season means one of two things. Either Shaggy is right (and I hope he is) and by the end of the month they'll already be working on a new ride. Or, the attendance isn't coming in as high as expected this season and this is an early ride closure to help shave costs.

You know, I don't even know what the ride is or where it is, and I'm a third-year season pass holder!
Oh man, Jeff, you ought to go before it's gone. PT is probably the greatest dark ride outside of a disney/universal park! I'll really, really miss it :(

I will miss this ride. I love the humor of the story. My favorite is the opera singer breaking the mirror:)
I hope whatever replaces it will be as good of a ride as the very underrated and overlooked Phantom Theater.

Bye bye Vortex. Hello B&M Flyer??
Funny comment Chuck, but I hope Vortex doesn't go anywhere. I think PKI found that it's a better idea to get rid of PT since it isn't being visited very often and get something that would keep the crowds coming back for a long time. If you put the interactive part into the experience, I think that makes for more rerides so you can see how high your score can get.
I agree with Peabody on this one and I would have been in favor of a second family dark ride, but I guess there's no use of it just sitting there. I would think it would be expensive to run PT, so its probably for the best. Incorporating the characters into the new ride or for something else would be a great idea though! Maybe keep the beginning the same with Maestro and make it where Scooby and the gang are kicking them out of the house or something. If anyone has seen The Enchanted Tiki Room Under New Management at Magic Kingdom, they know what I'm talking about.

I've heard rumors for years that Kings Island wanted to remove Vortex and put in a Flyer. If the Vekoma had done better at Great America, that's probably what would have replaced Vortex. It's my favorite of the old Arrow loopers before Tennessee Tornado and has a great location, but I'll agree that a B&M in the spot would be an even bigger showstopper and I wouldn't mind that happening. I would rather them put a new coaster somewhere else, but I've been waiting for a B&M to come to PKI for a long time. If that's its only way in, I'll take it.

Vortex looks fabulous this year for the first time in at least a decade. You don't SERIOUSLY think they're gonna yank it now, do you? And they DID repaint Top Gun a few years ago (same time as they painted King Cobra in fact)
