Advice for 1st timers to Busch Gardens Williamsburg

Associated parks:
None

My friend and I are going to Busch Gardens Williamsburg in July and just wanted to know, aside from the rollercoasters, if there was any advice on things we would want to try. We understand the park has awesome food and we wanted to know if anyone had some food suggestions as well.

Coasters:
-Ride in the back row on Apollo's to get the best air
-Im usually a back row guy, especially when it comes to inverts, but on Alpengeist be sure to ride in the front once
-Make sure that you for sure do BBW after dark, and I also strongly suggest LNM after dark as well. BBW is tied with the Beast for the most improved by night coaster.

Non Coaster Rides you need to do:
-Escape from Pompeii
-Curse of the Darkastle: Only one of two 4-D/Simulator/Dark Rides in the world (other being Spider-man)
-Corkscrew Hill is just a normal sim but I think it is quite good
-Roman Rapids: one of the better theme park rapids rides
-The Train and the Skyway, use them for transport they are great
-See the shows, they are on a whole fantastic, especially the Irish Step Dance one and the German Oktoberfest show

Food:
-You pretty much cant go wrong here but my personal favorites are the Festhaus (German food) and Trapper's Smokehouse (BBQ)

Since you are going in July, I dont know what kind of time constraints you are on (ie are tyou there multiple days?) but if you have time Water Country USA is a fantastic waterpark (which you will probably want to be at mid day in Virgina in July) and for history buffs Colonial Williamsburg, Jamestown, and Yorktown are fantastic as well.

Thank u for the response, Touchdown, we really do appreciate it. We might do Water Park USA, thanks for reminding me I forgot about it being close to there. We'll be there 3 nights so we might do that.

Thanks again! :)

^WCUSA and BGE are both owned by the same company, so they offer multiple day hopper tickets. I would personally go with those, then you can spend time at both parks every day.

Dude, Kurse of DarKastle... 'nuff said! You will wonder why more parks don't have one...until you find out how much they cost anyway.

DeVinci's Cradle is a great flat (magic carpet type).

Say hello to my friend, the Big Bad Wolf for me. :)

Rock Alpie for me! Make sure you ride the train ride completely around the park!

Thanks,
DMC

Wow, great stuff, guys!

Yes, I'll tell Big Bad Wolf, "Hello" for you Acoustic Viscosity.

On the train, after passing Big Bad Wolf, you'll get to see the vacant Drachen Fire station. ;)

Advice not related to rides:

Make sure that you and your friend get yourselves into decent physical shape.

If you get winded taking stairs or walking up hills, then make a point of forgoing elevators and using stairs. Practice on a treadmill regularly with elevation. Go on some hikes in the woods up and down hills. Walk around your community and include as many hills as possible.

BGW is all hills - big ones.

First thing in my book is to ride Darkastle.. I don't buy the hype.. In my book it blows. The line for this ride can get nasty, so walk in take a right go down the steps to the river.. go up hells mountain and head left and your tired and there. All the coasters are very nice and at night does add a special touch to each of them. Make sure in the middle of the day head over to get some free beer from beer school( if 21) WCUSA is one of the best Stand alone water parks!! Have fun and get a Rice Crispy treat at the candy store before you leave.. best deal in the park!

No I don't have a kid, but I still want to ride!

Aaahhh...DrachenFire....the roughest damn coaster (Arrow is fun but so brutal) but really unique because of the no-drop lift hill straight into an inversion...I miss that coaster.

Hey, no one mentioned Griffon!

I didnt mention it because I havent been to that glorious park since it opened :(. I have no doubt that it is a fantastic ride though.
