ACE Preservation Conference 2002- Canobie Lake Park, Funtown/Splashtown USA August 9-11

I skipped Friday the ninth because I had camp, but I went up to the event on Saturday morning. But first, some background info:

Nametag: Steven Barto from Vernon, CT. Saturday, I was wearing a Yankees cap, "World's Greatest Coasters-SFNE" shirt, and jean shorts. Sunday I had my Yankees cap, jean shorts and an adidas cutoff shirt. This was my first ACE event. Did anyone else go? If so please respond on your thoughts.

We got there before it opened and got our VIP stuff. We got in the park and me and my dad were in line 4th and 5th for the Cannonball. But in 15 minutes they announced it was having difficulties. We were bummed, but we headed to the kiddie coaster and did that, followed by Canobie Corkscrew for 4 times. This ride is SO smooth compared to Steamin Demon. I love it! 6/10

Off to Rockin Rider. My first ride on a Galaxi, and we did it twice. Pretty nifty coaster. 5/10

We then headed to Cannonball and it was testing, so we got in line for some 10 minutes of ERT!! We did it twice in ERT, and it was great! 9.5/10 I loved it, so smooth, so much float!

We then had lunch, pretty good food. They talked and auctioned signs and history off. We then did Cannonball once more with the GP, and i got some onride pictures in the front. We then headed to the second half of the conference, Funtown.

1.5 hours to get there. We got there about 5 and did the go karts twice. We then did Dragon's Descent and Galaxi. We then had all the time in the world to ride Excalibur. We rode it 8 times with the GP and this ride is great!. Although I think it has too many pointless turns, it was still a good ride. #3 wood in front of YC, Herc, and SFNE Cyclone, and behind Bdash and Comet.

Night ERT on Excalibur. 10-1130 This was awesome. It seems 50% faster at night! Insane!!! It didnt actually get done till midnite, but we got 15 laps, including many back-to-backs by just chanting "ONE MORE RIDE!" It was so fun. Some guy (not sure if he was an employee or an ACEr) set off fireworks in the parking lot and the police came and warned him (fireworks are illegal in Maine).

Morning ERT on Excalibur-before park opens- Good, but not as compared as to last night. No double rides, but less of a wait because many were at Galaxi. We got seven rides in a row in the back seat! So much fun!

Until lunch, all we did is ride Excalibur until 50 rides! I think this is incredible. We then had lunch but left when they announced it would be half an hour till the Q+A session, because we had to go home.

All in all GREAT TIME, great rides too! Can't wait till my next ACE trip which could be Lake Compounce, SFGADV, or next year at CoasterCon.

I lost my hat on Poison Ivy. How pathetic.

What are the lines for the GP on Excalibur. I am going to Canobie and Funtown this week. Excalibur sounds awesome.

The maximum time for waits on Excalibur was like 10 minutes. If you get there in the morning, you can get walkons and stay on for multiple rides.

What is Dragon's Descent?

An S&S Turbo Drop. I love it. I love Excalibur. Not too many people have a chance to get up to Maine to get on these rides. No Log Flume? No flats?

TOGO!

I did do the flume I just forgot to put it in there. It was ok, but whenever you'd change directions, you'd smash into the concrete barriers pretty hard, and it gets annoying.

As for flats, I didn't have the time with getting 50 laps on Excalibur and flats in there, as I had to leave early from the speech lunch. Plus, all that I saw I had ridden before.
