Accidents at SFGam????

i know that "the edge"( now known as Mr. Hyde's Nasty Fall at another six flags park) crashed and people were injured and that the demon of course got stuck upside down for 3 hours. but i was wondering if there were any other accidents at great america or if there were any deaths at the park?
The one that I remembered is the Demon accident in 1998. Demon is a good ride.

that girl that was kidnapped or ran away last year. it didn't have anything to do with the rides, but it had something to do with the park. my memory is a little fuzzy.

Umm, so far I've heard of these:

The Edge-Prior to anti rollback installation, the car fell back down the shaft when a lift mechanism failed. Several were injured.

The Demon- Riders were stuck upside down in the middle of a vertical loop for several hours when an axle broke.

Cajun Cliffhanger- The riders were not riding safely, and the floor raised with their feet getting caught between the floor and the wall. Two girls injured, one is currently suing the park according to the newspaper, but with the media the way it is, well...yeah.

I heard that there was also an accident on the Eagle's Flight cable car ride. Can anyone confirm this?

Welcome to Six Flags Great America, home of the fastlane and delay-ja vu! We have now officially been deemed the world-wide wait!
On Cajun Cliffhanger the ride stopped fast, so some people fell off the wall, then it started. A girl's toe got crushed.
Also Demon's brakes failed once. A kid once stuck his hand out of the car at the end of the ride and it got broken. Viper was only closed for a couple of days.

Ah, roller coasters, a two hour wait for a two minute ride.
Something happened with the Eagle 2 or 3 years ago I remember with the back car coming lose and rolling back into the station. I remember going there a couple weeks later and the back car on one train not on there.

Yeah, it's been pretty rough around here.

Demon had the 3-hour inverted stoppage in 1998, and also had an accident in 1990 in which the second train failed to stop fully in the pre-station brakes and bumped into the train in the station. Very low speed, no major injuries.

The Edge, of course, had been plagued with safety issues before it was packed up and shipped to Geauga Lake.

American Eagle has had issues with cars coming disconnected. It's happened a few times in the past, and I believe most recently in 1996.

On Viper, a kid stuck his hand out and it did get severed off, but that's not the ride's fault in any way.

As of recently, the Cajun Cliffhanger has been the only ride shut down due to an accident, and they're starting to shape up. Most of the accidents mentioned deal with aging equipment. They have since fixed all of the problems.

Along with the Viper story, i heard that someone stood up and his entire arm came off on a headchopper, so they had to re-do all of the close supports. Hard to believe huh?

The Eagle "crashed" in 1985 coming into the station (in the rain). This mighta happened again later too. I also heard something about the side or one of the "wings" on one of the Eagle's cars coming loose and hitting a lady in the face. >>

I also heard, along time ago, a guy stood up on the Whizzer (before it had seatbelts) and fell out and died. I dunno bout that one.

That did happen, just not in Gurnee. That was at PGA, not SFGAm. I thought that the Whizzers always had seat belts. Maybe not.

No - actually SFGAM's Whizzer did NOT always have seatbelts. I remember in 1980 as a kid when my brothers used to brag that they felt like they would fall out of the car near the water on the banked turns. I rode a couple times without the belts.

I don't remember when they were added. Overall, compared to other parks, I think SFGAM's safety record is pretty above reproach.
There were two incidents with the Demon in 1993. One was the infamous "bump" when the flag switch to close the brakes behind the station failed, causing the train to gently bump the train in the station. The other that year was when something cause the train to stop just before the drop into the corkscrews. Of course there was the stoppage in the loop. Nobody has died at the park though. A couple employees were seriously injured one time in the back area, they got hit by a truck. Nobody died on the Edge either. I even saw the car once, the seats where popped off the back and the roof was bent in. Was kinda weird. If you could not guess, I worked there for 4 years, including the 93 Demon incidents.

Turnofthecentury, if you read what the kid said, it wasnt Gurnee, but why you sayin, it did NOT, NOT like you gotta get loud or something. Youre not impressing anyone like that.
